it was always my intention to have the guns run out but because of the breaks i took whilst building bellona and the removal of the planking due to fading of the wood i had to use the gun ports as an alternative because the damage to the frames was too great and to be honest i just did not have the patience to do a complete rebuild of the frames......I actually like the cast gun ports, they provide an eye catching detail. The offer is still there if you decide to use them.......free of charge of course.

cheers Bill....that is the ultimate compliment.....as i have said before it is full of mistakes, down right rubbish craftsmanship in parts, but it is also full of character which i think adds to the build. I dont like a perfect looking build....they look too sterile and no soul contained in them. My Bellona contains anger, frustration, angst, and contentment and that is why I love the finished article....enjoy your Bellona...it is a fabulous looking kit...

Where did you get the gunport lids from, do Corel sell them? Mind you, the time I wait for anything to arrive here at the back end of the world, I might as well make my own.
sorry for not replying sooner.....i got the ports from cornwall model boats.....i have lots of spares here if you want them..not sure how many but yours if you want them.......i used the ports on bellona as a way of not smashing the boat up as the build was going badly wrong and it was a case of using the ports or binning the model....i think they look ok and are a contrast to the rest of the hull...

Hi,
Just looked into this build for the first time. You have done a great job so far. I had this kit many moons ago but sold it on due to its accuracy. Starting to think i get too hung up on the final result being as historically accurate as possible and so taking the fun out of the build. After all my favourite build was Corel's Resolution which i did just build from the box only modifying the rigging.
The Unicorn is an interesting ship with its beakhead bow and two light quarter galleries, features that are accurate to the original. Sometimes wish i had kept hold of her. I myself had found an old second hand kit quite cheaply (not £15.00 though).
give it another go Thunder.......not touched it since christmas but starting on rigging again this week...

Tomorrow marks the 40th anniversary of the lifeboat Solomon Browne's courageous attempt to save the crew of the Union Star which had engine failure and was drifting towards rocks off the Cornish coast. All crew members perished in a brave attempt. Coxswain Trevelyan Richards refused two members of the same family aboard such was the difficult nature of the sea. RIP brave men, your memory lives on.

I've been looking at some of your work, especially your rigging, you must have the patience of the angels.
i am a bit of an enigma really Chief,....I served with the Parachute Regiment, a unit not noted for our patience, and also for one who spent a few years in and jumping out of aeroplanes why i should build boats which our arch rivals the royal marines use.....ask my family how patient i am and they will tell you "not very", so it is with some surprise to myself that i reach the end of a model.....i try to look at the big picture nowadays and try to keep calm......a good drop of single malt whisky does always help.....have a good Christmas Chief...

I'm in the very early stages of this kit, and I read your line about 'Launching it against the wall...' Is there anything I can avoid to stop me reaching that point?
have more patience than me...

Your models are absolutely stunning! Congratulations!
Cheers BobG.....like i said to Old Collingwood, they are full of mistakes and down right rubbish, but they look ok...but mostly I enjoyed building them which what it is all about......although Bellona came within a hairs width of being launched against the wall...

I second the Minicraft tools if you can find them. I have the green power supply in the picture above as well as one of their drills. Works great; true variable speed. The Minicraft power supply that I have does not interchange with Proxxon; two prongs vs three. I have been able to buy adaptors that let me use Proxxon tools with my Minicraft power supply.
If you can find a Minicraft drill and an adaptor it should work with a Proxxon power supply.
the green one is a sander and i took the end of a drill i no longer used and swapped it with the proxon....works fine...

I installed the two part deck after the poop deck and cant remember it being difficult or awkward, but it may be easier the other way round....remember the belay rack which is underneath the quarter deck.
