Supermarine Spitfire Mk.I by Jörgen - Tamiya - 1:48 - PLASTIC
Javlin replied to Jörgen's topic in Non-ship/categorised builds
The Tamy and Hase kits are some of the best Nice start by the way. Kevin -
The works of the last couple of days the white marks on the deck are were I filled with sprue to put after market PE ladders instead. The back side of the plane platform you can just see a brass ladder poking it's way through. Kevin

Mike like to give you a definitive answer but it's a home brew I had a little left of Matt70 Humbrol and started adding a Red Humbrol till I got to the point I was satisfied. The color that Hase recommends is a Tamy color a little more brown than mine and in the right lighting that brown does peek a little more in my mixture.Well I got the catapult built out of the PE and good thing they gave me two carts for I destroyed one so it goes Kevin

I would say that I starting to approach the 50% mark on this one nothing on the deck is glued yet except small pieces.I opted to go for the plastic hanger since I folded the brass hanger deck one time opened it back went to go glue it shut and it broke!after one fold?I tried to align the folded pieces but it was off after the glue dried.I said nope and to boot the anti-skid pattern on the brass looked out of scale of what of been a persons foot the plastic is much more subtle.I am going to incorporate some other pieces hopefully if all goes well from the brass hanger kit. She's looking the part............ Kevin

I continue to move forward on this one I try to put in some work everyday(like cdrusn89) 1-3hrs for short days and 5-8 on my days off if life permits tonight two hrs.I painted the turrets, funnel, searchlight station and all the small bits on the foredeck.I have a question though the hose reels for fire control what color is the hoses?I seen on one build they were red and it be some color to the build but would like accuracy in this case.Thks Kevin A couple of different lightings

Came with it Mike and the brass to build the whole A/C platform.I am not sure yet do I use that are the plastic I will try to build it if it looks good then I will use it in the build.

I got to the range finder.I started on the 6" guns and I found it handy to cut the barrel short(leave some) and start the the center with #11 and go to the drill bit. This allows for a restart if you drift which I did on one and I was able to do a restart and correct.Pics..... Kevin and yes I fix that guns barrels before the glue set
-
The bridge PE is just about to come to a close tomorrow another rail and a couple of doors(open) to be added.I will then work my way up the SS to the range finder which I should get that handled tomorrow easy if I don't hit the range. Some Pics........... PS: added some ladders from Infini and the doors are from them also I will add tomorrow.

That's all part of the curve Kevin trust me I was not happy with the Wash on my last build but enjoyed the rigging for the most part. So,on the new build I am trying a different products for the wash.I like to do wood work and sometimes I do a piece three times but at the end of the day every piece of work I do has a "Persian Rug Flaw" everyone and I may be the only one who knows it but it's there.Solder on you will get better Kevin

My PE railing from Eduard came in earlier this week so I started painting and adding to the SS/bridge.

Like the Yukikaze I am going to try to put in a couple hrs of work 5 days a week which I did this evening.I have been working on the SS tonight drilled out the all the portholes as well as what's on the hull.Till Thursday Kevin
-
I started the build last night on 8/4/19 the hull went together in a snap and with many many internal supports. The deck required that many holes from the underside be drilled out for this particular ship I would imagine that rest of the holes were for others of the Agano class of light cruisers.I have a PE from Eduard for the Agano class for the railings plus what Hase supplied mainly for the flight deck area. Pictures :profile, supports hull, assembled hull and size Yahagi 19.5" and Yukikaze 11.5"

Cap I think this is the late war configuration about 44/45 kinda like it have a pic of her in the Panama Canal would suspect going to that final resting place.
-
Mike the chains came in the kit and they came with the Yahagi both Hase kits might be part of the difference. The way the instructions said lay out those chains made absolutely no sense to me over the top of each other Kevin

Short of two flags I am calling this one done. Thanks for the likes, support and looking in from time to time. The model like all showed me what to do and not to do and more to be learned in the future. Thanks Again Kevin What's next I'm chomp'in at the bit for Yahagi.

I appreciate that Mike but neck time I will do it like the Eugen as sub-assemblies.I have the forward part of the ship rigged with .010" ez-line it loves to stick to itself and thin glue (SG) I will paint the backside of the yards later weras I wrapped the line and started on the rear deck of the SS,This was not to bad about 8hrs maybe and that was after I pulled all fives of the stanchion like part coming off the side of the SS.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
