I don't think too many folk will notice that, Mike! She's looking very nice indeed.

I have finished the gun port Sills and Lintels.
I have been sanding 80% with the Dremel using the hand held attachment and the last 20% by hand. To my surprise nothing broke..lol. So far so good.
The gun port frames are next...

Welcome to MSW! I will agree with the sentiments of it being a smart move to start of with something simpler and smaller. Take your time on the build, be sure to read ahead in the instructions and plan sheets and don't be afraid of asking a "dumb" question. Most of all, have fun! Best of luck to you on your first build!

Love what you've achieved with the masts, cleats and tops, should all look stunning all in place. The deadeye plates do look convincing, nicely done.

Thanks Cathead. I think you have a great idea. This kit is a great lesson in planking for sure.

One method I've used a lot for edge-bending planks is to cut a scrap piece into a gentle curve, around which I can bend the plank. I find that it helps to have a solid curve to press up against, it lessens the potential for the plank to buckle or form a sharp curve in one place. This form doesn't have to be true to the final curve, just something roughly similar. I clamp it down first and then bend the plank around it. This is roughly what you're already doing in bending the second plank around the garboard, just more standardized since you won't be able to do that every time.
From what I can tell, you've definitely got the right idea and it's looking good.

Fitting the first garboard stake went pretty well. It sure is a challange. There is a lot of trial and error in bending and twisting the wood to conform to the hull. The edge bending was not as bad as I thought it would be and the second one went easier than the first. At this point I have both garboard strakes and one up from the garboard strake on the port side. I don't have pictures of that because it's covered in clamps and I just had enough for the day.

so i read through a few of the forum chains and i'm taking the advice given about jumping in too deep - and picked up a Swift kit on the way home tonight, learning on something a bit smaller seems.. prudent lol. anyway i've got it's little skeleton glued and setting on my coffee table as we speak.

I have NO idea why the keel looks bent. It was perfectly flat before I started adding the bulkheads.
I put a spacer in between M and N. That's where I broke it and I just couldn't get it right. The spacer is pushing against bulkhead N to push it away and straighten the stem there. Actually works pretty good if you could have seen what it was like.

Made the deadeye plates from .012 black rigging line like the instructions show. Wasn't sure about this at first but after trying a few it looks fine. Form an eye, seize above it and add glue. After painting (I used gun metal gray/black) and you cant tell the are made from rigging. Pull the 2 loose ends through the holes in the top to tie around the deadeyes on the other side. The instructions said to tie an overhand knot, glue and snip off but I tied an overhand knot, looped back around bottom of deadeye then tied another overhand knot around the bottom of the deadeye for extra security when rigging will be pulling on them.

Drilled all the holes. Used snips of wire on top to hang the blocks. Painted black.

Nirvana got a reaction from Duanelaker in Bluenose by Nirvana - Model Shipways - Scale 1:64
Next step after all the planking is to get the knight and timberheads in.
First timberhead installed was a mistake, had to rip it out.
Then I thought..... I have the bulkhead tops, so why not use them as a guide.
With some scrap planks I had my guide.
Cutting the 1/8th square I soon had my timberhead correctly cut and angled, with the planks it was easy to get it properly installed. As this timberhead is the first one installed I figured this is the way to get the remaining stanchions installed with the right angles.

I am just wrapping up the MFG for the first 13 barge kits. All of these kits are already sold. They will be going to the San Diego club as they will be building this as a group. I am waiting on a new delivery of wood to make the next batch and they will be placed on the site for sale. I just wanted to keep all of you guys in the loop on my progress.
In addition, and this is good news all around.....after making the first 13 kits I was able to get a better handle on the time and $$$ for their cost. Based on this info I am happy to report that my original price of $245 per kit was a bit high as I can produce them a bit cheaper than originally thought. Therefore when they are released the price will actually be $225 per kit. Shipping in the US will be just $7.50 while International shipping will be $22.50 which is the actual cost for most countries while a few others are even higher but I will cap it at $22.50 regardless.
