Hi Elijah

Looks good, what you are doing here! If you want to have more tipps and hints for your build, there is a building thread in a german forum, but you must be logged in there to be able to see the photos:http://www.segelschiffsmodellbau.com/

An english translation is included in that forum, just scroll down to the end of the page, there is a button on the left side to manage the languages. Then look in the forums overview for community projects - Lotsenschoner Phantom.

All the best

Regards

Gerhard

Good morning Elijah, she really is looking sweet. Nice work and keep it up!

Thanks guys! I will check out the German thread! In preparation for rigging, I have purchased some materials from chuck, but I will need to remeber not to rush :D. I think I will have the starboard side done this week. After that is the port side. I have some areas to fill, but some areas to sand at the stern. I am on station line 7, and I hope to make some progress tonight! I'm also looking froward to my replacement rigging materials to arrive! Have a good day!

I just came to realize something. Uh oh… I'm sure that's what your thinking :D. It appears that, though the hull length template was incorrect, the one supplied in the kit, the others were right. I guess I wasted time and gained experience .

Elijah,

Sorry to just be catching up again with your build log. I noticed you had questions on how to read a body plan (post 175). I would suggest that you look at the Eagle Practicum developed by Gene Bodnar. The practicum covers scratch building the Eagle but extensively discusses how to read the various ships drawings you find when looking at ship's drawings. The practicum is a great read even if you are not building the ship itself. More importantly, Gene explains in an easy manner how to read the various lines.

The practicum is free on the Model Ship Builder forum here - http://modelshipbuilder.com/page.php?183. The MSB forum is not as busy as this one, but it also includes some fabulous builders.

Elijah, you are certainly not the first of us to make a mistake.  E.J is right:  Use it as a learning moment.  If you want to see a few colossal mistakes, all in a row, read my build log of the "Rattlesnake".  The transom debacle is what put that build on hold!

When tackling a new task you will learn one of two things.

1. How to do it.

2. How NOT to do it.

Both lessons are valuable.

Hi Elijah

You must create an account at the german forum, to see the photos, without there is no way to see them. There are a lot of good infos, not only for your built, but also about common things as rope making, rigging, and really great examples of models. As is HERE!!!!

I am having a homework packed weekend, so no work on the ship :(. Also, the files from the camera are too large to post, so I guess it is back to the iPad. The Syren materials arrived, and they are great! I don't have any pictures not on the camera, and have to get back to my homework. sorry, I will be back to work as soon as possible!

Elijah, my photos from my good camera are often too large to post also. I just do a quick resize and shrink them down to 20-40% and they work great. Most computers will have a edit program like Paint that is already installed that you can use.

As mentioned, you can simply re-size them to post.  For reference the size limits for the forum are 1600 pixels on the long side, and 2mb in file size.  This allows for pretty nicely sized photo's.

My photo's all start out as 6000x4000 pixel images from my camera and are re-sized for the build log.  I keep the originals in a separate folder.

I'm back! I will attempt to catch up with all of your builds tomorrow! I cut out all the other templates, and took a brake from sanding to start construction of the keel. I also redrew the very much faded centerline. I started with the stem. You can see from the pictures, it is now glueing. Now that it is glueing, it is back to sanding :D!

You know that's one of the great things with this hobby. If you get tired of doing something or need to step back and regroup, there's usually some other completely different task you can move to for a while.
