Hi Scott, welcome back. I've been waiting for a couple of new toys and then it's back to work. We'll probably leave for the west coast by the end of May. Might do a trip to Austin and San Antonio in between. You need to go to Mystic again. The ship sails on May 17 I think then it goes up the coast and winds up in Boston in July. It'll be tied up next to Old Ironsides when it docks there after the restoration and it's 38th cruise....first since 1941.

Hey Lester, good tohear from you. I've been going to get in touch but been distracted lately. I will PM you about the drive. How's your build coming? Lot's of work left yet to finish up the restoration, hope ya'll make it in time.

Hello everyone, well, I am going to try to get a little work done in shipyard tomorrow....no promises since I do have some other things to do, but hopefully....if not then Wednesday. I have been waiting for a couple of new toys to come in and they all finally made it today. I am anxious to try them out. I'm planning to rework the anchors, and then start in on the masts and deadeyes and chain plates, and then go from there. It is approaching travel time again, and with the earthquakes in LA rethinking our trip. Might go east again and wait on sourthern Cal and the west coast. I only rethink the L.A. part because I was in the Northridge quake in 94 and that is why I left LA.....I was 3 miles from the epicenter, then last year in Costa Rica for the 7.9 quake.....don't like them....see you soon, and hopefully some pictures....

You sure have had your share of earthquakes. And as you know living in Santa Monica for so many years, so have I. Regarding travel plans to So Cal, you must have insider info, if you plan on postponing your trip?? (:-)

Yes Michael, I've had all the temblers I want to experience. I lived in Woodland Hills during the Northridge quake, 2 miles from Cal State Northridge which was the epicenter. I got a print from a friend who worked in the geological part of the school and it was of all the seismographs in each zip code of LA county, and our zip was a 9.5. He said they average all of the machines to come up with the readings. If it went over 7.0 then all kinds of Federal rules apply for aid....therefore 6.9 was the Northridge number....rigged????? Anyway, it was very violent thrust fault...he said we were pitching in a 3 foot diameter circle, 15 times per second for 45 seconds...go figure....I came back to Texas...

Yea you guys got hit very hard for sure, including all of the deaths in Reseda (which was the Actual epicenter). 

 

In SM over 200 buildings were red tagged. We had minor drywall damage, but a LOT of stuff fell. We are a bit nervous, and with our son living in Berkeley Hmmm. Fate is the Hunter (great book by the way (:-)

I lived in the Canoga & Califa area near Balboa park off the 101. Cal State is on Reseda. I expected to see water up to the 101 when it got to be daylight....SM shook some, but not like us..I had stuff in the freezer wind up in the fridge before it fell over...freeky

Well, I haven't made it into the shipyard yet, but there is still hope, if not then tomorrow. For anyone who might have an interest in Naval artifacts, I have listed and will list many more items for the USS Enterprise CVAN-65, and the USS John F Kennedy CVA-67. These are from my private collection and are very collectable to anyone with an interest. These are listed on eBay under "USS Enterprise CVAN-65" and will be the same for the Kennedy.

Hi guys, unfortunately due to some life issues, I find it necessary to put the ship on hold for a while. I will be leaving the Forum for a while, but will return later in the year. Thanks for all of your support....mybe it's the curse of the Morgan...people get to this stage and it doesn't get finished. I'll be back in touch when I can....signing off for now.

I'm certainly going to miss you while you take a break and we understand how life can rear it's head and get in the way of a complicated project like the Morgan.  The important thing is that you stay well.

Hi guys, thanks to all for the birthday wishes. Yes, I'm now an "old salt" among other descriptive adjectives. The big 65 this year. Hard to believe I made it, however, I am glad that my mind hasn't caught up with the ole' bod yet. Currently we are in Crescent City, Ca. just south of the Oregon border. I will say that this is the coldest birthday I've ever had (being from far south Texas) Highs are 59-60 and lows are 49-50. We are nestled among the giant Coastal Redwoods in this campsite. Right next to the RV (four feet away) is a couple of 7-800 year old trees. The Sequoias live to be 2,000 years old and as much as 25 feet in diameter. Magnificent. We saw them in Yosimite. Going to eat myself crazy with Salmon while I'm here...it's excellent. Should be back in the shipyard by then of September or October. Thanks for all the well wishes and when I have internet I try to keep up with you guys. All the ships look great and make me anxious at times to get back to work, but then I look up at the Redwoods and mountains and go.....nahhh not yet.

I've just had a chance to go back through the build log, and noticed I'm missing about 5 pages of pictures for some reason. Anyone know why or had problems with their logs? I didn't think we were supposed to lose these again. I sure wish there was a way to back up our logs. I guess while I'm out of the shipyard I'll try to repair. Anyone have suggestions?

just a small glitch that happened a while ago........yea...you'll need to put them back in, if you want to keep your log in good order I still have one that I need to redo the whole thing. wishing you a happy birthday......I love to be as free, as you are right now!

Ahoy Mate, good to hear from you. thanks for the info. Do I have to edit the page, and reinter the pictures? I'll try to get it updated in the near future as long as I have internet. Been having trouble with that in the woods. Some day you'll get to retire too, just make sure you don't have to depend on Social Security to live on...it sucks worse than I imagined. When I retired, I wasn't worried about it, but with a bad investment it's all I got left. By sharing with Diane, we can survive ok, but if single it is worse than poverty. Take care my friend.
