ladders

good evening everyone

i am trying very hard to make things better than the kit and my next mission is the ladders

the instructions will have you build it all as one set x 4, glued to the side with a couple of metal strips to suggest supports well this is how i am going about it

not my photo

1826490418_Amerigo_Vespucci_ship_in_Haifa_(26)(1).thumb.jpg.e55da85042179971c849f6c346345333.jpg

it is infact a pair of ladders and when not in use are folded against the ships side (Not my photo)

tall-ship2.jpg.a82b7d56417eb6eca9c63367d1f30fe8.jpg

i removed the brass fittings as they are all wrong, just so very wrong

matched the top platform in position and pinned it so i can remove it at any time, the pin also serves the purpose of being a runner to allow the supports below movement when the platform is folded flat

IMG_9810.thumb.JPG.3b43244262700d59096a26a9eba63240.JPGIMG_9811.thumb.JPG.3e37466f1eb62ca4fc2c2e65b834e1f4.JPGIMG_9812.thumb.JPG.a1e8ecc4ea2f5b1af4b99022830ddaeb.JPGIMG_9813.thumb.JPG.9625f50fa9ef70cba86166305019de6b.JPGIMG_9815.thumb.JPG.40d557b19b5c4ff7c2e5e196e959636f.JPG

i made a couple of support bars and located them against the hull

IMG_9816.thumb.JPG.27dd9e1fcb0e993bc774f5f69f7fdb88.JPGIMG_9817.thumb.JPG.2e48242183eb77bce04822c7c84a3ac3.JPGIMG_9818.thumb.JPG.42936928e5c8747566e23fad6e6d1c39.JPGIMG_9819.thumb.JPG.7a2e6636fc321cbc45c87f2ced31ada8.JPGIMG_9820.thumb.JPG.c4bf64e3c200b421b4879015de9cd92f.JPG

a piece of brass rod made up to take the ladder, which is not fixed as per instructions but stands on top of the middle platform

the middle platform is being fitted the same as the higher one

good evening everyone

ladders continued

i made up a second set of platform supports, but had to reposition the lower platform slightly to allow the upper ladder to rest on it

IMG_9825.thumb.JPG.67a73ca8dbc8fab7d801deec74e2528b.JPGIMG_9826.thumb.JPG.c357bca1c37d08ca18a5d5125b1c7eb1.JPGIMG_9827.thumb.JPG.824cc405fa44df4e7a37989cb551a693.JPG

the lower ladder is lowered and raised by a block and tackle derrick so a couple of brackets made up to support it

IMG_9828.thumb.JPG.ef53fcad401a3744f2b64cd8c12ae967.JPGIMG_9829.thumb.JPG.4a74b4daded24d8a4ea819ff75d80c9a.JPGIMG_9830.thumb.JPG.d398f11244564289dd63d1aef0a10aa6.JPG

made up a chain spreader

IMG_9831.thumb.JPG.7d672321fc6abc0a46f80a415bd78a50.JPGIMG_9832.thumb.JPG.b3ecd9d1559c4d1ad4dc2e6ff561d441.JPGIMG_9833.thumb.JPG.404b983830c9eac02f6e53cacd719c2d.JPG

the chains are to long

and blocks oversized

and the spreader could do with being not quite so wide

or i may make the platforms a little wider, which might be the best option

good evening everyone

must admit I never realised just how much extra work i have given my self

i am still working on the first of 4 accommodation ladders, and every time i look at @schiffebastler build i see more detail to be added.

i was asking about how to cut brass tubing into small sections to make the Stanchion supports and found out if i put small lengths into a rotary drill i can score the lenghts quite accurately with a x-acto blade

I thought of that after  googling  the name  and this came  up  -  I quote  -

OC.

Amerigo Vespucci
Amerigo Vespucci was an Italian-born merchant, explorer, and navigator from the Republic of Florence, from whose name the term "America" is derived. He became a Castillian citizen in 1505. Between 1497 and 1504, Vespucci participated in at least two voyages of the Age of Discovery, first on behalf of Spain and then for Portugal.Wikipedia

good evening everyone

well most of the port side accommodation ladders are in, another couple of fittings to sort out and then paint then in relevant black or white

im struggling with the rung ladders, making them out off paper staples, getting them to look tidy and inline and as for the white painting to do the touch ups

i may take the white one back out redrill and paint them before placing on the hull

good evening everyone

most of the two lowered stbd side accommodation ladders are complete now, hope to finish them tomorrow

as the port side was a test, these went together much better and faster and in my eyes look better

made a set of jigs to ensure the platform supports were the same size,

lol its the danger time when i say to myself is it time for a redo of the port side
