Do you really need to start again? You have the base there, its just missing the cut out for the Topgallant Mast.

Not exactly 😟

Ironing base on down side od platform,  without planing to open that hole, left no enough space for this

You can see it on photo of detail

You are right, my friend. C-plans are not quite readable for begginers

When you point, I check it, and see ...

In mean time, I re-think, and decided to make it again, this time from a bit harder material, and more acurate and clean

Is there any part of Her Majesty which I can make at once?

But, this is all one big game. so, let`s play!

I think you're right about not making parts just once.   I have a box full of scrap wood.... make that read;  reworked parts.

I decided to remake masts, and now I am looking for tin sheet metal piece, thin enough to look as real, and solid enough to be able to handle forces of tighted ropes. At the same time, to be easy for drilling and carving. It is not easy task as it looks on first sight

Thanks. It was a kind of problem, considering this is full scratch build, to find a sheet of metal, to be thin and enough strong at the same time. A lot of ropes go there, which mena a lot of thiny forces will affect ends of structure, and structure itself is pretty weakened with openings.

Hello Rob, and thanks for nice words

Yes, 9 years ... but there are some excuses ... my job, which varies betwen 0 and 16 working hours per day, my family, and my character - monkey see monkey do e.g. my another hobbies (photography, guitar, writing and publishing novels, painting with acrylic on canvas, researching history, gardening, traveling, reading books, study listen and collect music, theatre, opera, ballet, exibitions, long walks with my dog,  etc etc), and of course my social life and some ladies :) To complete picture, I am not experienced modeler, so I still learn, which result usually with 2-4 attemts before I do something in a way I want it. And just to make the soup thicker, some time ago I was promoted to be one of Admins for famous Serbian photo group with 65.000 members ... in my vocabulary, word - boring does not exist !

But I am here, in shadows, watching what happens here on MSW

Just a thought, but won't you need to insert the base of the mast into the deck?

That is a nice neat ring, you will need to install the spider ring above this first though with the loops horizontal to accept the belaying pins.

I hope so Rob, it is a good start. I would not remake the mast based on this as this part will be below deck any way.

I would temporarily set the mast in place and mark the height for the deck level, mast foot, this ring and the spider ring.

The ring NenadM has made is a good template for the Spider ring so this can be drilled out for the pin mounts.

The mast can then be reassembled and nobody will be any the wiser of the initial slip up.

Alternative dead eyes, max 4mm dia ...

My madness don't allow me to by parts, so, great problem are dead eyes 3-4 dia. Making them from wood with three holes ... not to throw appart, not possible for me.

And idea comes. Tested today succesfully.

Three brass pipes 1mm inside dia, soldered in triangle. When it get cold, cut pieces thick 1mm, clean holes. You can paunt them in desired colour. Rest - rigging them is classical path.

This is just a test, and ropes are not adequate, knots tooIMG_20220402_194841.thumb.jpg.4da36174636517aa9054115bc13b38db.jpg

Update, after .... he he ... long time ...

Fjnaly found adequate material for masts, and remade bodies for all of them.

Really fun starts right there!IMG_20240201_210550-01.thumb.jpeg.3b349b206c30a055fb224e07546e27f7.jpegIMG_20240201_210613-01.thumb.jpeg.21d958c70ac544d5b67375c255e02da7.jpegIMG_20240201_210744-01.thumb.jpeg.7cc44438535ad7a63f28b3bafebb1042.jpeg

Hello again. Life is too short for ... Ship model making, classical art of painting research, museums, theaters, concerts,  drawing and painting, collecting and listening to music (over 100 GB), playing the guitar, mindlessly reading books, writing and publish short stories (240), history research, Admin FB photo page MBDI, photography, cooking, my home yard, long walking, Bobtail Rhea, furniture making, bicycle, houm reparations, different modeling in wood and Ytong, computers and mobile phones, chess, sudoku extreme, travel trips in Serbia, swimming ...

Also visiting Princess in Germany where she live and work, be with Hothead who finally got his master degree in architecture

Also some ladies from time to time ...

And my office, of course. In April i can retire with 65 years old  and full 40 years of working, but I`ll continue to work as attorney.

As you can see ... usual staff  for me - "monkey see - monkey do" 😜

In all that stuff, I was stuck in finding appropriate material for masts for a long time

See you soon here, dear friend.

Nenad

Little progress. First I closed and filled wrong holes I drill for masts, and then cover them properlyScreenshot_20240210_185937.thumb.jpg.375739efcd6bc8f5b24b196e4ed76967.jpgIMG_20240210_185606.thumb.jpg.06479c4b090bf55e18cc889fcfe74dc7.jpgIMG_20240210_185559.thumb.jpg.b6a649b02afbc4db8cad77cbf40347a8.jpgIMG_20240210_185546.thumb.jpg.633d78bfce1c8ec9b65cdb3c05f286b5.jpg
