Tonight started with making forgoten cat stopper. I used brass wire 0,5 mm, much better than Cu wire 0,5mm. Harder, but still can be shaped in desired direction

Let's finish another

First I made all shackle and drilled neccessary holes ( 0,5 mm), with "dry" testing.

I hope nobody was angry (Brian ?)

Little joking ... and my crazy imagination ( you can see my eyes on avatar become more and more blue, and my ears starts to look like stunt sails - spice thing, I guess)

Next is CAPSTAN, with, of course, couple of dilemmas

First

In C-plans, there are 6 capstan  bars

post-4738-0-31837000-1436977061.jpg

In CS present state - there are eight of them on WC house which corresponds with number of holes at the capstan`s top

post-4738-0-92213900-1436977063_thumb.jpg

Second

Bars are on place only when capstan works

But I think bars on place will be very nice detail on fore deck

What do you think/ like  more - bars on position or bars on wc-house

I have two opinions, not decided jet

Third

Capstan is really small on my scale

Look at this picture

post-4738-0-47979500-1436977241.jpg

On Lou`s pictures - whole capstan is black. On present - black with white lines

Hmm

And at top "brass cap" or  "Brass Dome with a name" whatever it is

post-4738-0-88499300-1436977604.jpg

Hmm again

Tough decisions, Nenad.   I guess it's a matter of what point in time you want.   At some point, she did have only 6 bars obviously.. Same for the color. And the brass dome with the name engraved... at this scale yet.  Yikes!!!!

I was recently looking at pics of her back in the day. The picture Captain Woodget took of her under sail at sea seems to clearly show her capstan all black. There's another picture of her taken IIRC at Sidney unloading what I would guess would have been wool. Not sure but it also clearly showed her capstan as all black. Also showed her boats with black topsides. There was a neat curly fancy end piece on top of the after end of the forward deckhouse. The stevedores are clearly taking a break, sitting on the rail. I love both these pictures of her. My favourite pic of her is the one in my avatar though. Not sure you can make out the capstan in that one though. Maybe if you could find a decently detailed (large) copy of that picture you would see it. Good luck, that's part of the fun. I love the research involved in these projects.

my decision was easy...I turned the capstan on my home made lathe and then screwed up the alignment of the holes when I was drilling them.  So..I have the bars stored in the rack.

I was also going to have the ship with all of the sails set, so I thought that they would be such a hazard on the real ship, they would never be left in place while under way.

Still, sometimes it's nice to have details like this.  Thus why I'm going to have my anchor chains around the windlass and attached to the anchors (like yours).  Under way they would "ship" the anchors onto the fore deck and stow the chain in the locker.  But I'm sure everyone would think that I forgot to attach "ropes" or chains to the anchors.

The choice is yours, but in the end....the spice must flow

About bars - it seems that I`ll make them and leave them aside for a while. Marc`s comment has point - if you want all sails spread, then there is no room for bars on capstan even on foredeck

Capstan - attempt No1

I can make it better

Layers of veneer for down base and bottom of top construction, covered with Cu foil 0,1mm

post-4738-0-20981300-1437077248_thumb.jpg

Black paint

post-4738-0-65623700-1437077267_thumb.jpg

So little for bars

post-4738-0-08830600-1437077607_thumb.jpg

And temporary on place

post-4738-0-37281500-1437077661_thumb.jpg

Think scale is OK

And answer about bars comes ... when I put capstan on place, it is obvious that there will be no bars on capstan. In my scale their diameter is less 1mm, and don't think it is possible. I can make them from wire, but this is not good idea, them are from wood

And for tomorrow, I'll made both layers of top structure from Cu foil, because I can better bold holes for bars

The capstan looks good Nenad. At this scale, making tiny little parts is almost impossible, but I think when you take scale into consideration, you've done a fantastic job on her.  :dancetl6:

Nenad,

What are the rectangles beneath the windlass handles on the drawing?  The cleats you have identified for the jibs (3 on each side), I think that they are eye rings for attaching the blocks for the jib if I remember correctly.  You might want to check it against some other clipper plans.

Looking good!

Rectangles ... As I could see on photos, those are movable palletes. On some pictures they are presented, on some not.

You can also see something simillar on some pictures layed beneath bulwark, with anchor chain on them

post-4738-0-88130500-1437243262_thumb.jpg

Just think it will be nice detail

2 x 3 "cleats" are not presented on Her in Greenwich, but you can find them in old photos, and in Conservation plans. I suppose them are removed to avoid visitors from faltering ;)

In my scale, cleats, eye rings and eye bolts has cca 1mm dia, and looks equial. I know thet are different, but as I am not able to make them different, just didn't even try to remember where is cleat or where is eye-something placed
