That was exactly I was thinking over during making pig pen... imagine CS in the storm on a wild ride, bow jumping 10-20 meters up and down, , waves jump over decks, and poor animals under fore deck in space full open to weather conditions .... scary from today point of view

During hervworking life, CS was cargo merchant ship without passangers, with 20-30 crew members, and after that navy training ship. On Wiki you can find nice short history of her, and more detailed history in different sources, if you are interested

Whilst ships were frequently classed as cargo ships if they were payed enough the captain would give up his cabin and take over the next one down and so on. In order to earn extra money taking passengers. And was in fact better paying, by the pound, than taking cargo as it was all in secret. All be it an open one. So there would have been numerous passengers who would have been female. As male passengers would have pitched in with the crew unless they payed triple the fee for female passengers. I have been following your posts and enjoy them very much. I am building the C S but not as well as you master modelers. I don't have your patience but its coming. The hull is done and i'm starting on the rigging. I have installed the first section of all 3 masts and the crows nest..I have a problem the small metal pieces that joins the first section of the mast to the second crumbled when I tried to drill out the holes. I tried to fashion them out of aluminum but they look terrible.Is there a place to buy parts like these?.I was able to save one but I don't know how to mold metal. Buying them would let me get started again. I would appreciate any help

You are probablly right. People are ... just people ... always find a way to bypass rules ... and that are usually not recorded events

Thank you John. i can not help you, because I am far away from metal works, and have very little experience.

 

Some bad news which will probablly slow me down ... Admiral gets ill, and has to go to multiple medical researching ... we`ll see another week what is this. some god news - for now, we know it is not cancer, it is not heart ... some shadow on lung ... still visiting different specialists ...

This is from Lou's photo. Today, anchor chains are not presented, but chains will be nice detail, particulary to take part in my "overload with detail" strategy

Sorry to hijack your posts but it's the simplist was to answer this I hope. This sounds like a job for a model train enthusiast as they are used to working in miniature as well as metals. I suspect brass to be a better metal but ask the experts locally. Try your local model shop for some contacts. You'll probably find one or two names keep being recommended theses are often the best to approach as they have been recommended by users. Never be afraid to use others knowledge. It will only increase your own and improve your finished piece.

WOW!  What a nice video and now Nenad knows how it's done and can make his own chains and anchors - - - what !!!  No?  Oh, I'm just kidding Nenad, you'll figure a way to do it.

That video sure brought back memories of my training in forging and smithing.  That kind of welding is very difficult to do and do it right.  I could only muster a decent weld after the third try.  The metals must be close to melting and must have sand put on it tp prevent it from burning.  The sand must first be knocked off and then the hot metal put together.  This motion has to be VERY quick otherwise the weld will not be good.

 

I hope your wife's problem will be minor and wish her all the best in her healing.

Almost hit ...

 

 

Cotton thread, tighted and twisted, then prepared with thin layer of wood glue, burned hairs with lighter, another thin layer of glue, burned haires again, then two thin layers of black acrylic, and after knothing, overaching new chain line, and then very thin layer of gold acrylic.

 

Of course, clear method for knothing without mistakes of line directipns, , which I will describe this days if anybody is interested

Great work though. Definitely going that extra mile. If you haven't tried it "rub n buff" if good stuff and may have saved you scorching as its a wax base designed for the speciel FX trade. To make anything even a paper towel look like what ever metal you like.

Hi,

 

While I still retain something like sanity. One thing I've learnt from the 1/350 tonight. Whilst threading what passes for ratlines on it. Which is just the vertical lines. It's so much easier to thread them off the hull as you can turn the mast which ever is best which would be impossible with the masts on the hull especially with all three masts to work around. Also you'll need at least three times the line you expect.partly from wastage but mostly from leaviyenough to tie. As even though the line is to scale, or not. The knots still take as much line to tie them as do the full sized knots. And my fingers haven't figured out how to scale them selves down.

 

Also i hope you were a good boy scout and learnt your knots. Although the main one you'll need is the dead mans knot. And don't use CA to fix your knots as it will just wick down the line and you'll end up with fixed curves :-) best to use PVA which is also good for getting rid of those pesky knots the makers use when the thread breaks. Because when a knot passes through a pinch point it fluffs up. One last thing, as yours will be a virgin line rig, I hope your good at "cat and mouse"????

 

And don't forget your brightest nail varnish...
