The administrators did there best, but no luck for me. Thanks guys for the search!!! So here we go again. To hot to build so now is time to restart the log. The box Dry fitting together with the little sister Start to plank the lower deck Upper deck finished planking Adding some bow fillers and fairing the bulkhead frames Start of the first planking The plywood quality isn't really good. After an half hour soak it starts to delaminate. I had to glue it all back together. So be carefull.. Thats it for now. Preparation for the first layer of the planking following Chuck's method. For me is it the first time, so lets try something new. Each side of the hull is divided in four sections. Lets see how things work out. !! It looks pretty symmetric to me.... I'm pretty satisfied about the result, except for the bow. Lining of the bow was pretty hard en because of all the curves, placing the thickmarks wasn't also very easy. But we will see how it goes. Its first planking after all. It will all be covered up by second planking. It was a little bit of a struggle for the fist time planking like this way, but I'm pretty happy with the result. Now its time to plank the upper part of the hull and then sanding- (aka making dust-)time... A question: The planks for second planking are very thin: 0.5mm and ther are difficult to bend sideways. Any tips???? Great job on the planking, congrats! Still trying to get my head around the technique, so your descriptions and pictures are really helpful. The Sapelli veneer can be a handful, very brittle, difficult to cut into shape. I had no issue bending sideways as long as the strip was long enough. I used 2 strip halves, cut in different places so they wouldn't align on the hull. I didn't use the cobblers glue which they're so fond of in the instructions, as you can hardly correct afterwards (and it stinks to high heaven). Used Mantua aliphatic glue, at key points (bow, any bends etc), used a small dab of CA to keep the strip into place until the PVA sets. Be especially careful around the bow, as the strips have a tendency to pop up and leave a nasty gap. Hope this helps! Quote "Whatever does not kill you, only makes you stranger." The thin sapelli (0,5mm) is very hard to bend sideways, with an iron and a lot of patience you can get the job done... Take your time and don't rush things and don't be afraid to do things over. Second plankings is much harder than the first layer because the wood strips are extremely thin (0.5mm). When you bend thin strips sideways, they start to pop up on certain places. You can bend them sideways, in multiple stages. I’m working on Occre’s Revenge, and achieving far more seams and ugly bumps in my planking than yours. As for the plywood beakhead and keel, I found that if you sand it (mine at least) the color lightens significantly and I can stain in with mohagany stain to get a finish color very close to the sapelli. The windows of the gallery are a pain in the a**. I couldn't get the curve right and decide to use the solution that DavidG used on his Diana. Replacing the PE brass part by styreen strips. It took a lot of hours to do this job...
