I know what you mean about the chair and TV.

TV makes me angry typically, I guess that is why we removed the TV's service a couple of years even before my disablity. Many have commented that we should have it hooked back up, so I'd have something to do.

Personally, if you look at the tediousness of building as FUN, I find sanding a piece for hours WAY more relaxing than television.

Seriously the commercials are too tedious for me, they invoke anger usually and to me most of the "reality" TV is just a 30 minute commercial....but then thats just an opinion of a mad chemist, which isn't by any stroke of the imagination a definitive anything.

I find it interesting how different people find differing activities relaxing or frustrating, seems to me that TV breeds impatience. If people would try hobbies, whatever they may be and for me TV isn't a hobby. There is just something about creating something that make hobbying awesome but is so lost on so many.

thanks Mick and take care of yourself too

Keith i totaly agree with you. Anyone if you havent done so do a bit of timing on how many minutes of adds compared to how many minutes of the show you want to watch  (one show was about 7 mins of show and 5 mins of adds every time). solution : tape every show yuo want to watch so you can skip through the adds :)

Wicked good to see you getting back into it, Adriaan.  I'm with you - an hour at the work bench or with a good book beats the TV anytime!  Now I just need to get back to the bench...I hear some sawdust calling my name!

I would be lost without my TV  :o

I watch TV from the moment I get up until about 2 hours before I go to sleep

The only reason I don't watch it in these last 2 hours is that is when I read  ^_^

I don't watch 'Programmes' like reality TV and series of stuff, soaps etc etc

I watch a lot of sports, golf, cricket, fishing

NOT football  Other than occasionally American Football  :P

If not I watch documentries, science and history and stuff like that.  Mythbusters is one of my faves for example or anything on Egypt

Zahi Hawass is my hero  :D

I watch it when I am building

I watch it when I am on my computer

I just sit and watch it

I am totally and utterly addicted

So there, I have admitted it  B)

Keep it up  :10_1_10:

@ Kevin - to me DVD's and TV are 2 different animals. With a DVD I control the programming and there are no commercials to interfer. I'm with you on that, but there is no TV in the office so I use my PC as a TV monitor for movies and doc's (have you watch James Burkes stuff, great docs). Audio books are also great when you need your eye's on the build. Music would always be first on the list when sound sensitivity allows it though.

My biggest problem with TV anymore is length of commercial time and how they tell you whats coming right before the break and then after the commercial break they repeat the last 3 minute, like everyones an Alzheimer patient and can't remember what was just aired minutes ago. When Tam and I were Travelling for her job last year the Candlewood Suite they put us up in had 2 big screen TV's. I attempted to watch TV but found the repetitiveness drove me crazy.

I've recently let Tam talk me into netfix's as $8 a month is resonable and Netflixs has lots of doc's and movies. I just started a 32 hour audio book yesterday though (McCammons Swan song, read it years ago) and love how it allows me to work without needing to watch the monitor. Plus with my ever deteriorating eyes, audio books let me reduce eye strain and save it for building and MSW reading.

Posted

i never thought of audio books on in the back ground - brilliant idea, lol - i can read, and write (even joined up writing (even though no one even me can read it)

Posted

Thats funny you mention joined up lines ( I assume you mean cursive, or thats what we call it in the US)

When I was in college, my Physics TA was from China and I remember the first class after the first lab report was due he came in and said

You no can write in curvy lines, me can only read straight lines (which sounded more like rines then lines) the class just stared at him, then I said "he's doesn't want cursive, print your lab reports)

As a graduate student I was always amazed by the foreign students that TA'd, changing countries and taking classes is a handful, having to teach in a foreign language I couldn't even imagine. The multi-cultural aspect of grad school is still to this day one of my favorite aspects of grad school. One of my favorite chinese students/friends and I use to have long talks on all types of subjects. Until talking with her I never knew the chinese language had no "th" sound. which was funny as Keith Smith became Keis Smis. It took months to get Qin to prononunce the "th" sound. I still can't roll my R's so I completely understand.

Youtube also has lots of movies, we recently watched Sharp's series and Horatio Hornblower on Youtube. Glad you like the audio book idea, I've recently reread/listened to several of Larry Nivens works including the complete Ring Worls series, I've collected several audio books and now with my eyes giving me fits it brings back the good ole' days of Mom and story time :dancetl6:

Sorry for hijacking the log Adriaan. Hope you are still improving.

Posted

thanks Piet and Sjors :)

no worries Keith. the "th" sound is still a problem for me as well  (doesn't exist in Dutch language either) can be embarrassing when you try to say third and it sounds like turd

so far so good David :)

but I had to ditch wearing gloves as it was uncomfortably. but toothpicks and tweezers keep the glue away from my skin

being more cautious slows me down a bit so didn't get as far as I thought

one more large window and some wall planks are left plus covering any tiny gaps around the doors (so the light doesn't shine through) and sanding down the door and window edges before I can put in the lights

Randy, Sjors as I was going to start her when Sjors finished his ratlines  (I didn't say on which ship though ^_^ )

unfortunately however much I want to start on her especially now I have all the missing parts it will still be a long time

Thanks Mick

for me being well , that almost didn't happen , as I had a car accident this morning , a car slammed into from behind and pushed me against the car in front . I am alright no injuries just a bit shaken up. there is lots of damage on the car but it can be fixed. oh and yeah I ll get a ticket from the kind police because I didn't stop a safe distance from the car in front.

Hi Adriaan,

The like button is NOT for the accident or the ticket !

I hate it when such thing happened.

And then a ticket because you where to close on the car in front of you?

Where you driving or waiting at a traffic light?

Is it your fault that the car behind you push you to the car in front of you???????

Police is gonna get crazy !

I'm glad that you are all right.

Damage on a car can be repaired, human body takes a little longer.

And you are right, you never say witch ship has to have the ratlines before you started on the CF !
