HMS Victory by Sjors - Caldercraft - 1:72

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

And yes, another Victory build!

Welcome all.

My apologies to Amati, but I couldn't wait any longer for their Victory. So I ordered the Caldercraft / Jotika instead as a present to myself on the occasion on my upcoming 40th work anniversary in August.

And boy, she is big and heavy. A box filled with 15 kilo's (33 lb) of all kinds of goodies.

Update time,

I have glue the frames.

Also the support on the bow and sten.

Then the lower gun deck and the support for the false canons

Also removed a part of the upper support. between frame 9 and 10.

My first thought was ....strange.

It cost a lot of problems to get that support into the slots and the I have to remove a part.

But, Horatio Nelson needs a way to get on board on a easy way.

So it's not the entrance.

Enough talking, time for pictures!

Good luck Sjors, you made a good choice, it is a good kit.  I enjoyed and still enjoying every minute building it.  You will face a few problems, but solving them is part of what makes ship building interesting.

Thanks Robert,

I told mij wife that some day i will build the Victory.

That day is arrived.

She is now on the shelf with 3 planks on her because of other things in life.

In a few months she will come down.

I have read your log a few times and i’m impressed and a good example for me.

thanks 👍😀

Thanks John,

There is almost nothing that go wrong at this stage…..

With the 3 planks i mean the hull planks🙃

I hope i can continue in a few weeks instead of months.

I have to remove the dust from the build log......

First palnking done.

Use filler band then sand everything till she is smooth as possible.

Now I have a good layer for the second planking.

Enjoy!

I'll settle in and enjoy the show as well, Sjors. The Victory is such an impressive model and a massive undertaking. Wishing you smooth sailing through your build.

Morning Kevin,

What do you mean by forward gun ports?

At the bow there are two gun ports....

Good to see build back up. Looks like a first rate first planking job.

Malcolm

Hi Malcolm,

It takes a while before all the planking is on it.

And I don't want to make pictures of every plank.

Better is when it is finished.

I'm here Jason:-)

Thanks.

The Snake is almost finished.

I broke a spar so I have to change that but she is waiting patiently.

I'm not working at the moment because of my sickness.

I have IBD or Colitis Ulcerosa, a little bit difficult when I'm driving on a bus.

Anja is working at home because of the Covid-19, so I can not sit in the livingroom at day time.

I'm banned to the hobby room 🙂

Thanks Bob and welcome!

It is a impressive model and it was a dream for me to build her one day.

So a dream comes true.

The template does not include all the gunport openings, i think i added another two more either side in the bow

Oke Kevin,

It makes sense to me know.

But i don’t have a template….

The gunports are all ready  cut out in de ply .

So i think i have the latest version of the kit?😛

I had to add a another gun port  to both the lower and middle gun deck at the bow.  Count the gun ports  on the template and the plans, sheets #2 and #5. Plans show 16 ports, templates only have 15 cut out.

There isnt a template its just a gentle reminder that you need to make anothed 4 in total openings, its a pain to do later on in the build
