Hi Ndeconte

This is the first time I've seen your log and like others have said, it's very impressive. Great work and I love the way you've managed to build so much charm and character into your model. For your irrst scratch build, you should deservedly feel very proud! Keep us the great work.

Kind regards and all the best.

So I wasn't happy with the first floor I did. Used sheet balsa that was painted with some colored pencil lines.....over time the sheets "peaked" at the joints. So I pulled the interior pieces I had done and the back wall of the cabin and pulled it all out.

I cut correct width planks out of 1/8" balsa sheet and used white cardstock between each plank to mimic the flooring. Got it all glued down and one of the interior walls mocked up.

Finally figured out how to do my louvered doors and I'm happy with the first set......Still need to do the ones up front and center.

Re-created the shelf so it's more accurate.

All interior pieces glued in, it's getting there slowly but surely!

So I've made some progress and I'm somewhat happy with how it's all turning out:

Door is painted and weathered:

Fly Bridge is built from scratch for the third time since I wasn't happy with proportions and scale. Hold downs for roof built from sheet styrene, brass rod and pin heads. Liferings cut and shaped from high density foam and covered in fabric. Base paint is on it's way:

so, as you can see, haven't got this to my step son yet!?

Still working on it, always takes longer than you expect......Not rushing it!

Since my last installment I got the interior buttoned up, well enough to get the roof secured. Got  the railing around the barrels done and a lot of the weathering done overall, D rings created out of brass rod and 00-90 washers, rigging started. Also, it took me a few tries, but I finally got a tension adjuster built for the rigging that I'm satisfied with!

hope you like!

Leaving tomorrow morning for Marthas Vinyard, getting gravel from the movie location of where Quint's shack was...... thought that would be very appropriate for the base.

I love Jaws, I make it a point to rewatch it every 4th of July. Its amazing how well you have matched the colors and degree of weathering of the film version of the Orca. I know the film well enough that as I look at the detail photos in your build log, my mind goes right to the specific scenes in the film that featured the components in the model. As I look at your photos, I start to hear the score from the film in my head.

Thanks for the kind words Guys!

JerseyCity Frankie, I'm building this for a Jaws fanatic (my stepson) so I'm trying to get this pretty damn close to the original. As far as the color.... It helps when you have a section of Hull from the Orca II which was the actual 3 paint colors on the inside of it, which isn't faded! ;)

Hi Everyone,

Hope all is well on your end! Thanks for all the likes and comments on the Orca, much appreciated.

Quick up date here......

Here's are the finished barrels. I sculpted one which was shown earlier in the log here, that was molded then cast in Urethane. These were then base coated in a Lacquer based black paint, then topped with an acrylic based yellow. Once dry, this was scraped off in areas to show wear. Two different thicknesses of string/thread was used to replicate the ropes.

I was also able to find the time to get the shark jaw that is mounted on the front wall of the upper wheelhouse. This was sculpted in a wax based clay. This will also be molded and cast in urethane.
