Hi Everyone. My name is Andrew and age 36. When a was 9 yrs old I was work on plastic model airplanes/helicopters, all military. I am an Air Force Vet. I did a combination of snap-tite and glue models. I have always had an interest in ships/boats. Growing up in Louisiana you get to see a bunch of them on the Mississippi River and Intercoastal Canal. I have just started modeling again and figured I would take a crack a ships. I have started my first wood kit. I'm having fun with it. I have been watching many video's to help me learn the techniques needed to put together a wood kit. My first model that I'm working on is the "The Harvey", a Baltimore Clipper. It has stumped me a few times but a few google searches and youtube video's later, back in action.

Welcome Andrew. Be sure and poke around the site a bit. You will find a trove of great info here in both the build logs and the articles database. I find if I'm stumped it is best to step back and do a search here for the info or technique. If it needs reinforcement, then YouTube.

Welcome to MSW Andrew, I'm quite new here too but I'm getting really comfortable and enjoying the company. I'm a Royal Air Force vet so that's another thing we have in common as well as our experience of plastic kits. I hope you are finding working in wood as satisfying as I do.

The next thing for you to do is to jump right in and get a build log started. You will get a lot of support and encouragement and it's great fun.

I visited there from RAF Swanton Morley in '93, officially on business but mostly to get to the BX.😄

I hated that part of the BX was on RAF Lakenheath, another part on RAF Mildenhall and the last part on RAF Feltwell.

Hi Andrew, if you're close to Philly, maybe you'll consider visiting the Philadelphia Ship Model Society, we meet at the Independence Seaport Museum the first Thursday of every month, so we have a meeting this Thursday.  Good Luck with your build.    Also, if you're interested, you should consider participating in ModelCon onboard the Battleship NJ on August 6th.    Bring a model on board to display with the rest of us, you'll can tour the ship for free.    If any of that is interesting, let me know and I can provide additional information.

That's a drive!  Here's the flyer and participation sheet for the ModelCon, has all the info!     As for the meeting, we're gathering at the Independence Seaport Museum at 6:30p.   If you end up paying for parking at the museum, the club is doing at least a partial reimbursement.    I can PM you my phone number if you think you're going to make it in case you have any issues.
