ringbolt2013 Posted April 12, 2014 Share #549 Posted April 12, 2014 (edited) Ollie Guns the mounting there of Smaller guns 12 lb or below had 5 ringbolts w/iron rings attached 2 on either side 1 directly above the other the lower one took the preventer or recoil rope the upper took the run-up tackle The last was above the port in the middle to which the mouth of the gun was tied when not in use to prevent movement at sea. there is also one more affixed to the deck directly behind the gun for the practice firing usually far enough to bring the gun to full inboard recoil..... l learned that aboard the Connie. Good to get a grip on a technique.. This was As I had run out of kit one's for whatever reason... I have added more rings to canons. I use a lamp to help dry things. The humidity here is near 100%.. I decided just to paint them with some tamiya metal paint, happy with the finish.. For a while there I wasn't too sure about my decision to do two different finishes on my hull, but now sometimes she sits facing one way for a week or so and I flip her around and feel very satisfied.. I.like both sides equally.. almost. Thankw and hope you enjoy the pics and your weekend. It is the bible which will answer so many of your questions. The eyebolts look great but, in my opinion, both your eyebolts and ringbolts need to be smaller. I gave up trying to make my own at the tiny scale needed and just bought them from Model Expo. As far as I can tell they make the tiniest eyebolts that you can buy. Caldercraft do a similar size but they are photo etched so lack the roundedness. I bought several hundred eyebolts from ME. Have a look at my cannon in my Fly log - the eyebolts and ringbolts are very, very small. Still trying to figure out what ship/boat is in the background. This era either had a rail around the gunwales with a gap for the oars to use or a kind of triangle with a half moon cut at the back to take the oar's lever action with the pull Kind of pointy end pointing towards the bow that size boat would take 2 per side remember "officers in the stern" Hope that's a help. I didn't like the fit of the back seat, so I remade it and added some side seats, looks much better.. Cleaned up the CA and all looks well with the clinker finish. I decided to make mine a bit larger than the kit supplied, when looking at the historic sketch and paintings, I decided so, I also havnt noticed more than one boat so just going with this one.. In King's sketch he shows a boat on deck that looks about a third of the length of the ship... Mine fits on deck nicely and actually really like the look of it up there.. hmm. Mine works out about a quarter of the ships length. About 4.8 metres at scale.. The kit shows to add rings to cap rail and ropes to more rings and to the davits.. Do you lot think I should mount it like shown in instructions?? It was quite common for cutters to carry their boats on deck (less chance of damage that way) and as King clearly shows his boat on deck, then why not stow it here? I'm thinking 4 oars should suffice?? Thinking I will store dinghy on the rear even though I like it on deck.
