Thanks Burnside. There's still a lot of frustration concerning scale and accuracy. I've decided to try and not think about it and just go on building.

I suck at soldering but the wire is secured and glued to the wood. It isn't going anywhere...

The saga of lost proportions continues.

Stairs

post-6862-0-95356900-1428560056_thumb.jpg

Started the railing. The "Guardrail vertical parts" as the parts list state them, are made of really soft white metal. the wire is extremely hard. probarbly the best quality of the whole mess. Impossible to cut with pliers smaller than medium.

Guardrail primed. Stairs totally out of proportions.

The LED's shine through the roof plywood so I'll use sandpaper (grit 800) to simulate tarred paper that the original has.

Funnel. The metal sheet supplied was a very thin piece. Impossible (for me) not to buckle it.

Did my own extra pipes as none was supplied in the kit.

This build will be suspended until late autumn as I have other ships to build now that the weather is warmer. Sanding must be done outside. I'll try to up a log of the Pinco Genovese later.

Well, I was almost finished with Bohuslän, only the lifeboats to go when I decided to put her in my youngest kids room as a nightlight. My youngest daughter got a little too excited and managed to topple the model down from the shelf and most of the protruding stuff went off. My own fault and no big loss actually. The kids where more upset than me cause their nightlight was gone.

So the story of Puckotreds "Bohuslän" ends here. She is somewhere deep in a wardrobe now.... (The ship, not the kid...)

Hi Puckotred,

Sorry to hear of your mishap.  Its a shame you have put it away as was enjoying the build and it was looking very nice.  But I know where you are coming from as doubt I would have the heart to repair major damage either.  Its fun putting to together new parts not so much redoing them.

Cheers

Slog

Hello Peter.

Not beyond repair. But after all the trouble with the build I just couldn't be bothered fixing it.

As Captain Slog said above: "Its fun putting to together new parts not so much redoing them."

The wood is kind of OK. The laser cut hull frames fit like a dream but then the laser cut parts on the thinner vener of the superstructure was way off. one wall 5 mm higher than the other etc. And the thinner vener was very bristle. Instructions worst than those from plastic kits.

So, no not really worth the money.

BUT in the end she looked pretty good (before the dive to the floor) so if one really have a fetisch towards these old steamships one should go for it. And there is room ready for radio controlling her. Türkmodel sent me the broken/mismatched parts at once when I contacted them. And it's fun with all the chairs and tables and curtains.

I am building the Mariefred by the same company.

http://modelshipworld.com/index.php/topic/12589-ss-mariefred-by-francesca-nordic-class-boats/

So far I am still building hull. I find the the lazer cut part are very accurate, and the quality very good..You can see more comment on my build site.

One problem I am having that I can't explain is that I have had trouble with the CA glue holding at times.  It appears with this wood you really have to sand the burnt edges very well. Something I have not had the problem before.

I agree with the comments on the instructions, byut the plans a clear. YOU JUST HAVE TO LOOK AHEAD.

Hi chborgm,

Look ahead yes, in this case that translates to foreseeing every part and its place and what parts are meant to be near any other part. And measure EVERYTHING before construction. You should not have to worry that walls have different sizes or that a 50 mm tall door is 8 mm too high and wide to fit the door opening.  ;)
