I am not sure. I have not gotten that far. I remember when I did this. That curve on parts 50 and 51 completely confused me. I kept trying to install them so the larger gap where they meet the keel was the other way. Thankfully there wasn't too many different combinations.

PS: Use these parts to check the curve of your fillers.

Finished sanding the stern fillers. Then I added a little bit of wood filler, to complete the nice curve.

This is the before pic. When dry, I'll sand it down, add more filler, sand it again, until I have the nice curve.

Just glue. Good point. I'll place a triangle brace behind it, should do the trick.

While on the subject of where the stub is, I'm assuming there's a similar backing required for the door that is going just opposite to that gun port will be. The plans don't mention a similar #31 there, just wondering your thoughts on providing a filler there.

Good idea. When I saw that on the plans I laughed at the thought of it knocking around in the hull

As for the door; I think the plan is to let the shipwright decide. My plan is to take a piece of milk carton plastic and place it in the hull. This should allow the door way to be illuminated but not let you see through the hull to the other door.  I have to run some tests before I commit to this

Back at it after a few weeks off, one of them in the Caribbean!!

Started on 2 planks, one on each side of the ship, following the lower decking, and glued.

Added some backing for the 2 doors on each side of the ship, painted it black, to give the illusion of a dark entrance.

I'm back at it again, here's a quick update to where I'm at. I am not entirely finished the first layer of planking, but here's a photo of my progress.

I've begun to transfer the gun ports from the plan to the hull, took me about 3-4 hours to do both sides, next I'll cut them out. Fun stuff...

Hello Robert, nice to see another Calgarian in the Victory club. Nice job! Have fun with the gun ports. What method will you use to cut them out?

Best, Ian

Hello Ian,

I'm thinking drilling holes and cutting to the edges with a fine knife or saw.

Working on the same task right now...cutting the gun ports in my 1:84 Victory. Have found that drilling a number of small holes, then cutting/trimming to the pencil lines with a sharp X-Acto blade, then finishing off with a sanding stick, is the best solution I've found to tackle the job. Have found it is very important to keep a sharp blade in the knife. Change them often. If you even think the blade might be getting dull, it is dull. Change it. A sharp blade makes the job so much better. After about 5 ports are cut, it's time to change the blade.  :(  I know that makes for a lot of blades used, but it's worth it in the long run.

Your model looks great!

Regards

Craig

I've managed to mark all Port side gun ports this weekend. Then, I drilled a hole in the centre, all the way to the backing (for the cannons), then using a Forstner drill bit to take out most of the port, then carved out the remaining. Here are a few picks in order of this process....

I'm back at it, started with #34 at the lower wale, as you can see from my pics below. Bending #34 is a challenge, but going pretty good. Soaking the wood and using some steam, works fairly well.

I decided to follow the plans, asking #34 to start at it's proper location, then moving up accordingly, not going over an extra layer of the second plank. This is the second layer planking, as per plans.
