Amati Loom-a-line worth using? (edited by admin)
James H replied to bluenose2's topic in Masting, rigging and sails
The Amati loom-a-line is fantastic! Fantastic as a wedge to keep your workshop door open. -
Are you an NRG Member???
James H replied to Chuck's topic in How to use the MSW forum - **NO MODELING CONTENT**
This one has been explained several times. You and the staff will be able to see your own NRG number. Others cannot. The reason that visibility of your number is restricted is for data protection, plus the use of the number can gain discounts or other advantages for someone, should it be used incorrectly. -
Airbrush
James H replied to Mike Dowling's topic in Painting, finishing and weathering products and techniques
Very good advice, all round. This is my way of working for thinning and lubing my Iwata. -
Deleting your own topics and posts
James H replied to Chuck's topic in How to use the MSW forum - **NO MODELING CONTENT**
If we empty every 2 months, then it's likely that a member will realise he deleted a topic in that time, unless he only did the day before we empty. Please remember that that there is a responsibility on members for their own actions too. We have given you the tools and we ask that you use them responsibly and really look at what buttons you're pressing. -
Airbrush
James H replied to Mike Dowling's topic in Painting, finishing and weathering products and techniques
I use Iwata airbrushes (HP-CH and HP-C+) for my magazine work, powered by an Iwata Smart Jet Pro compressor. All of my paints are thinned 50:50 with Mr Levelling Thinner. Those paints would be Gunze and Tamiya. I also use Mr Paint http://mrpaint.sk which is pre-thinned and ready for immediate airbrush use. -
Nice to see you here Mark, Dive in, crack open a project and enjoy yourself.

Work station clutter
James H replied to Senior ole salt's topic in Modeling tools and Workshop Equipment
I can promise you won't be disappointed. Myself and a number of friends have invested in these workstations. The beauty is that you can buy whatever units you need, and tailor them to your own bench space. Totally flexible. Here's their promo vid: -

Maybe you should head to HobbyZone They make the most amazing workstation units that are interlinked with powerful magnets, so you can rearrange the modules as to how you like them. The quality is top rate, and they are beautifully designed. Here's my setup: -

James H replied to khale's topic in Building, Framing, Planking and plating a ships hull and deck
This is a question about modelling, not website issues, so I'm moving to appropriate forum. -
Thank you for posting those Suzanne. That model deserves pride of place. Thank you do much for sharing these images of your father's work.

Hi Suzanne, Please allow me to extend my deepest sympathies to you and your family at this time. 67 is far too young to pass, and I can't even begin to imagine the heartache and sadness you'll be feeling now. John will be sorely missed here. At MSW, he was amongst friends too. Please pass my regards to your family. I'm thinking of them. Jim

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
