Nice clamps! when do you pull the patterns off the frames? I am going on a short cruise to Hawaii and back soon so will be taking some frames to assemble with me, I have already cut out the pieces, its just a matter of gluing them to the frame pattern...about 18 frames, should keep me busy for a couple of days. I have a lot of small clamps but want to try and fabricate some that Ed Toshi did for his Naiaid whic I do not have The short cruise was 15 days, great relaxation!!

I have sent Billings Boat an e-mail but it has been a while since they have sold the kit hopefully they will have the research available. I came across this picture today taken in the mid 40's of YTM446, it has a lot of detail and is a very clear picture. it has an extended deck house aft beyond where the galley would have been, I doubt if there was a towing bit aft because of the limited space. It also has a raised pilot house with the captain's cabin just aft on the main deck house. But it is still a Woban class tug! the site said it was operated by African Americans, possibly an east coast location Will check out your new site asap Guy

That sure makes it look simple~great vid! -
Klaus, You propose some interesting issues with Dr Mc'Ardles publication on the construction of the HMS Sussex. Perhaps you could publish an Addendum to his book with all the corrections. I am sure any one wanting to construct this ship as a model would find this useful and would immensely add to the accuracy of ones construction! I have seen the model and it is well done and seems very accurate, however I do not have the book yet and can not comment on the accuracy of his drawings. One would have to ask how accurate are they as compared to his one off measurements of the actual model.

Anouther good source for woods in southern CA North OC is http://www.eisenbrandhardwoods.com/ or http://eisenbrandhardwoods.com/index.php?cPath=37 for most ship building woods in large quanitied ie: boards. I think that they may have moved their location and the webpage is new and still in progess of being constructed but there is a listed phone number that will put you in to contact with the owner

Bob, great job! I liked your paint scheme, the red really delinates the construction of the boat. I did not see any one in the group talk about the application of the frieze decal other that you used a diffrent one than was sent with the kit. was this a decal or just paper glued on?

I like your ships stove, did you use the drawing from the speedwell plans or some other drawing but not a boardy. Can you show us your construction on the stove?

Bob the deck house looks good, don't forget to add the 6 dogs on each hatch/door. The portholes all opened and were either riveted or bolted in...proably too small for that detail Guy

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
