  1. This is one of the most popular ships and there are detailed lines plans available but none go very far into the detail of the construction
  2. While all those are good books, none of them covers Blockade-runners and side paddle steamers used during the civil war. Some of the current material available is: Clydebuilt by Eric Graham Blockade Runners of the confederacy by Hamilton Cochran Lifeline of the Confederacy by Stephen Wise Blockade, The Civil War at Sea by Robert Carse Confederate Blockade Runners 1861- 65 While they are all good reading, informative and give a lot of specific detail, none provides the specific construction detail that I am interested. There are many plans, manuscripts and letters between constructors and buyers available but difficult to get to. The “Records of British Business and Industry 1760-1914” has provide me with some detail on the companies that constructed the ships as do several of the books listed above. There are also a lot of books and manuals written around the turn of the century, that are now available thru Google books' Gotenburg project and College scans on line but none of them has scanned the large scale detail drawings that come with the book and if they were scanned they were not unfold. In particular what I am looking for is how was the ships actually constructed ( this is an era where we are going from wood to Iron and steel, sail to steam). also the engines/boilers who/how were they constructed. Now that I see there is some interest perhaps I can get past the hump! Yes I have been on the Paddle Ducks site.
  3. Unbelievable job on the saw construction well build and laid out...looks as if I could plop a 4x8 sheet of plywood on top and cut it in half! Have you a drawn out set of plans for this? Great pictures
  4. I think a very interesting topic would be the history and construction of paddle steamers used during the Civil War here in the States. Who built them, sailed them, used them, and their purpose. The significance of this type of ship and their influence on the rapid development of the vessel, paddle wheels, and power plant construction during 1860-65. There are a lot of books out about Blockade Runners but none cover the construction in detail. Any one interested?
  5. Welcome back! I was following your build on the old site but have not had time lately to peruse the new site but will put your build on my watch list. I would love to build this ship and I do have the book now so I can follow you page for page! Good Job! Guy The Learner
  6. Great start Woodrat! I have the book and it is a fantastic book for the modeler as every thing is in detail and Mr. Delacroix leaves nothing out. I love that you are using local wood. Cheers, Guy The Learner
  7. Perhaps a little late but there is a member of the ROPE in Japan that did a complete set of plans for the HMS Bellona including the frames in CAD format. I have only seen the CD with the plans one time but as I remember they were well drawn. Cheers, Guy The Learner

  10. Gary, I followed your build on the old site...so good to see you repost it here! I had a friend from my first club that Built the Alfred from Hahn's plans but was unable to finish he before he passed away. I will try to post a picture of her, he did a fantastic job.... Gary we want to see you finish her and many many more Cheers, Guy Well perhaps some other time with the picture it appears I have to find a storage site to put the picture on before I upload it to this site
  11. It has been awhile since I have visited the site but I see that you are progressing quite nicely. Good save on the re-work! Yes, you are a perfectionist or you would not have made repairs in the manner you did most would have figured out how to hide the imperfection. Cheers, Guy
  12. I like the mast! nice to sit back and fantasize how she will look when finished. My first build was a market schooner, they have clean lines. Great start
  13. I have just finished going through the entire post and I am facinated that you are able to produce such an awsom model with bits paper, card, clay and paint.
