Chuck, I just finished converting 100 of those Team Office Depot type clamps. I think 65 of them should be enough.

Micro Power Sanders
jburchfield1@wowway.com replied to mtaylor's topic in Modeling tools and Workshop Equipment
Been up and down about getting this. Could have used it for fairing the inside of the Longboat. Guess with this recommendation the matter is settled. Got a birthday coming up and I'll be sure to let the kids know. Probably need it when I get the Bounty Launch. -
convertion fraction to mm
jburchfield1@wowway.com replied to rafterrat_2005's topic in Modeling tools and Workshop Equipment
Maybe this can help. http://www.advantagefabricatedmetals.com/conversionchart.html Another possiblity. Don't know where you live, but I bought a digital micrometer at Harbor Freight for $8.00 that reads out in fraction, decimal, and mm. -
I probably should have mentioned at the start - I'm stripping the hull (attaching the two halves is a far as I got before I decided to try wood) so it's not really feasible to submerse this thing. I could buy a container large enough I suppose, but doubt I could afford enough of these products to totally cover the hull. That's the main reason I was thinking about oven spray - works fast, stays wet longer. But I believe that I'm gonna try that Westley product first.

And I would like to see, if possible, a closer or larger image of that "screw bell"? Interesting idea.

Thanks for all the input guys. I found the one that I'm gonna try first - Easy Off Oven Cleaner. That's the one that I was remembering. It's supposed to work because of the ammonia. All references point to: spray, brush, and clean with warm soapy water. If that's doesn't work, I'm gonna try the Purple Power. My concern about the Paint Remover Gel is damage to the plastic. Would be no question if it was wood, I've done that with furniture.

Couldn't find anything on this but maybe somebody can help........ I'm considering pulling my old 1:96 Constitution (plastic) from it's dusty storage and finishing it. Need to remove all (ALL) the old paint (probably enamel) from it and not sure how. I believe that regular paint remover would damage the plastic. Anybody got any really good tips?

Dremal Power Tool
jburchfield1@wowway.com replied to Spiderpig's topic in Modeling tools and Workshop Equipment
Yeah, Chuck, I bought one of those microchucks (for those small #'d drill bits) and contrary to the comments about it on AMAZON, mine runs straight and true -
I can sympathize. Took me 3 tries to finally get my planked. Don't give up, you got closer on your first try than I did. I would suggest however, that you not use the previous method. Example - seems to me that if you make a plank too wide and then measure the remaining space, the next plank is actually going to be too narrow. I finally, on my third try, went strictly by the tick strip method.

I'm pretty new here but how old is the hinge in the 1st picture? It looks to me like a few strokes of a round file on the hinges in the second picture would give you the correct "shape" and from the second picture it looks like the "new" hinges might age to the right color. Just throwing it out there.
