  1. Hi Ron welcome back, you are now in my mind coming to the best bit of the build,i enjoyed the masts and riggin on my supply,it does literally transform the whole ship.Out of interest are you painting your hull or going with natural wood look ?. DEREK
  2. Hi Sjors that is looking to be one fine ship really really nice.Hmm HD now you got me thinking i got a HD mode on my camera going to have to try it now.I like the way your name writes on the screen if i ever discover how to do that i do that i might just steal the idea.Having a few technical hitches on my build which is a polite way of saying i done some thing wrong, such is life Derek
  3. Kevin i expect to see a 4 star AA rating on you garage ,do they still do those i wonder .Derek
  4. Hi all well in regards to these strops i am not sure what to say i have tried Daves idea of drilling holes in cut outs,it did not work for me just bent the flimsy strops out of shape,i have also left one of the lugs underneath that also seems to be wrong, either way leaves very little room for movement i to think they come up short. The sad thing is the manual appears to have missed all out on the fitting of these,at least there is not a thing in mine, this is not the first thing jotika have forgot to include either. So holes in cut outs lugs underneath who is right who is wrong nothing anywhere to say.One thing i will say these strops and chains are by far the cheapest looking i have seen to date very poor in manafacture, brass etching not good enough, going to see what other strops can be used, unfortuantly there are no other chains to replace what we are given.Even the chesstrees details was not in the manual had to read else where they need 2 hols drilled in then sorry jotika this is a epic fail on your part DEREK
  5. Hi Patrick ok two ways to keep those tiles nice and clean,1 i bought some evo stick adhesive cleaner its good but you need a window open plus it is highly inflammable, the other way get a wooden toothpick and twirl it round and surplus contact glue it wil eventually form a blob on the tooth pick, well that blow can be used to pick up and surplus glue that seeps out just roll it over gently it really does work. DEREK
  6. Hello Patrick bit of doom and gloom here to i am doing the channels and found after i had put the dead eye strops on i had the darn channel upside down,it said in manual it is easy to do that so i went proved it,at least i manged to get them of intact
  7. Hi just a photo of cannons this the first time i have used a primer and i must say it makes a world of difference to the top coat, for once i have a smooth finish with no trace of the copper showing through .I have now got to discover how those dead eye strops sit on the channels, they are not the usuall run of the mill strops. DEREK
  8. David a curiosity question are you not going to paint the end of the cannons red to match the others ? DEREK
  9. Hi Patrick i reply to the styrene question on Davids log i do did that and cant remember who suggested it,the size was 0.5x1.0mm help get the tile line neat DEREK
  10. Hello Patrick disaster what disaster looks ok to me,you planking if anything is better then mine was,but as someone said to me when i started first build the (Thermopylae) that i will find out filler is my best friend and it was,The copper tiling as Yon said tedious doubt i would want to tile another build meself, but look on the bright side Patrick there is only 2600 of them I not done much of late wating to go to opticians got a bit of double vision, prob over done sitting at the PC. DEREK
  11. Hi Yon Those cannons look real good mate, actually your build is nice and clean all over, i had a mishap slipped put me hand out and demolished the main stairway ,those balusters snapped like a carrot beyond hope,so i built another used some dowel i had spare not as good looking as the originals i have no posted of late getting a bit of eye trouble double vision will see what opticians say, prob to much time on PC.Enjoy your hols what island you going to ? DEREK
  12. Ok if i remember correctly i used a bit of ca to hold it then i gammoned it tightly,it certainly is nice and rigid on there. DEREK
  13. Hi Frank wow that furled sail is taking your build into another dimension great job,i think you said ages ago something about scratch building was not for you,but that is what you are doing now with those sails, well done .DEREK
  14. Think we all got our own ideas on copper tiling,i agree with Chuck people should try it,its a love hate thing, have to say after copper tiling my Victory with 2600 of them i can say with me it is a hate thing. DEREK
  15. Hello David lol it is rudder on rudder off on and off darn thing dont want to stick there some drilled some holes going to try and pin it.
  16. Hello David see your enjoying the lids actually they look good mate, tell you what might be worth bearing in mind, the side entry port canopy and steps,a few of those steps are right up against the gun ports David, might be a idea to put those on first while you have the space.
  17. Hi Caroline i dont think i seen a gun port lid that opens a nice touch that, your second planking is superb nice and neat and clean .DEREK
  18. Hi Caroline that bearding line is a nice smooth curve, now i seem to remember you saying you are not a tool-a-holic so may i ask what and how you did that line DEREK
  19. Thanks Gil for your invaluable log,as well as the little jigs you have invented and easier ways to do things you have also been about the only person to have understood jotikas victory manual page by page, most us us me especially find some pages of manual mind boggling.Ha Ha i wonder how many unfinished Victorys there would be without your log. DEREK
  20. David just a thought was thinking about those gun barrels,if you put them in after all the lids are you going to catch some and pull them off, maybe a row of lids and a row of barrels or barrels first, quess it comes down to a personal choice DEREK
  21. Hi rosemarie yes i know all about reordering,i bought the admiralty paint kit for mt Victory no way is it enough,i am convinced they calculate the amount of paint need on one coat no errors and no paint touch ups,ah well if i need it i need it so ordering more yellow ochre and dull black, wonder why a uk company used the word dull, that is a american term in the UK we call dull paint matt. DEREK
  22. David what i meant was the lids have to be all at the same level IE none sagging down of upwards all straight out,or are you doing that bit by eye. DEREK
  23. Hello David going to look nice when all those gun port lids are fitted, that rudder looks ok to me despite what you said David. How are you insuring all those gun port lids are going to be of equal height ? I actually had a PC free day today was nice. DEREK
