  1. Great ship and presentation! Well done!
  2. I always really like this ship, such a beautiful one. Great that you have started a log, and have fun with this build! And you have build already some nice ships!
  3. Haha I know...it's a difficult piece! But, removed the nails of the first wale and it looks the glue has grapped the both pieces well. I'm quite happy how it turned out! It feels a bit like i've past a difficult test or something haha, glad it's over But now a ton of filling with some wood filler and very careful sanding them smooth without damaging the beautiful lasered planking.
  4. First wale installed. As suspected needed tons of nails 😁. First I painted the bottom black so I don't have to mask the hull when painting the rest of the wales. I used some diluted PVA and glued 1/3...nail the wale down, then another 1/3 and so on. This gave me some time to attach everything. But still the glue dried pretty quick so it will be a test when the nails will be removed if everything stick well to each other... I hope so So here the nail pusher slipped from his spot and damaged the lasered gunport patterns a bit, that's a bit sad...so this needs some cosmetic work afterwards.
  5. I think it's doable pricewise to let that cut by a professional, and order it online or something
  6. That looks really good! Will keep that in mind for myself, when it's time for a glass case
  7. That's the goal i'm aiming for Paul! Your Sphinx looks superb! Everybody can Olli, just take your time and it will come.
  8. Soaked the wales yesterday for the first time. Only the part at the bow, but that felt insufficient. So today gave the whole wales a bath for the second time. If I try to follow the line it needs to run in the middle of the ship it wants to come of a little here and there at the bow. That's why it felt better to soak the whole thing. But will still need plenty of nails when the final install with glue happens I guess I'm toying with the idea of having the wales start just off the rest of the planking at the bow, as if the wales were in the rabbet. As they are in real life, but I'm not sure if it's worth it, or if it'll even be noticeable. Will decide that when they are dried.
  9. Thank you for your very kind comment! Well Chuck created the tutorial for planking, I just followed it. I have read articles about planking before, but I never really understand it well. It wasn't until I saw Chuck's videos that I started to get it. That's why I haven't really written a detailed report on how I approached the planking, because that already exists in the form of the videos. Thank you so much! Yes that detail of the horseshoe is pretty cool. Still need to add it though. That's what I love on these Vanguard kits...there aren't many manufactures that include all these nice little details Thank you all for your very kind comments and likes! Really nice to read 💫
  10. Just step by step and you will learn a lot here on the forum
  11. Not so tasty Glenn 😵😁 The hull looks cool! I find the shape really attractive!
  12. Update: Finished with the WOP, so here are the final pictures of the result. Used 4 layers of WOP with sanding after the first two coates. I used 400 grid sanding paper, but would advise other people to use some finer grit. 400 felt a bit to coarse for the job. I'm quite happy how my planking turned out, also the color has a nice warm tone. Now onto the wales Btw...glad MSW is back online!💫
  13. Maybe a bit easier would be hairs out a stiff, cheap paint brush. Then you also have a little more hair than the cat has whiskers 😁
