To model the gallion is a little bit fiddly. The drawings doesn't show the real dimension of the rails and knees. So I started first to make the lower and upper knees.
After this I could find out the dimensions of the upper rail
Next job will be the carving of the filler and the figurhead.

@ Patrick - some years ago when I was modelling the Pegasus I had the idea to modify an ironing board so that it will be possible to go deeper as the normal way in using such a device. When I did talk about this with my Admiral she has an idea how ti manage this. And than she said: you can get my old ironing board, and I will go to the store to buy an new one. She has an modern ironing board and I have a very good working modelling bench.

After several weeks with carving, I now again have to made some technical parts of the Utrecht.
First the windlass
On board of the Utrecht the catheads and the windlass are one technical system. I have made it from swiss pear, the rolls are from brass
It was no problem to turn the shaft of the windlass from beech wood

Some pics from the finished decorations of the Windows.
Now I have to carve some figures. I tried at first to carve the two sea animals which will "live" on the reling. They are not so complicated as the galions lion and the others. They are named dolphins, but I think that they are typical baroque seamonsters.

Hi Bob,
nice to see how you build this modell of a wonderfull old beauty. Its a dream to sail on board of this old lady from Stockholm to her old destination Mariefred Harbor.
I think that she will be the last of this old ships with a steam engine which sailed in Sweden. There is another little fleet of old ship which sailed in line traffic on the Götakanal from Göteborg to Stockholm. There are Ms Juno from 1874, MS Wilhelm Tham from 1912 and MS Diana from 1931. But in these ships the steam engines were exchanged for diesel.

At the big Utrecht these parts are mirror-like. But I think that I will have to carve many times until I can make two of this parts wich are realy equal.

Hello Niels!
Your doing an absolute amazing job especially in metalwork.
I think that I will have to ask you for help in this, for I am going to prepare my next project. That will be the Gorch Fock. And in building her there will be a lot of metalworks ( reling,vents and so on)

The replica makes 3-4 knots at Wind 3-4. Yes, this ships hadn't been racehorses, but very comfortable sailing hotels for the upper ten of the dutch companies.
