Unfortunately, no. It was all lost in the great crash of 2013. I am away from most of my research materials this week but will look through what I have with me and see if I can turn anything up.

Sjors - I found this while I was walking along the shore this evening in New Hampshire and thought it may have been dislodged from your SI... Hope all is going well - how are you making out on the metal work? Seeing the rest of your success on this beauty I have no doubt you will overcome this obstacle as well! EDIT: I just noticed - 12 more posts and you will have the distinction of becoming the first non-Moderator Commodore! A worthy rank for a mariner of your stature with your fleet of mighty cottonball carrying warships nearing completion!!!

The terms are from historical records for Royal Navy ships. I recall a rather lengthy discussion on MSW 1.0 about this very topic. I'm not sure we found the definitive answer but there were some good references given!

This is truly sad news. The whole Tripp family will hold you and your family in our prayers, Suzanne. Your father provided me with much quiet encouragement and support as a new model builder, and I shall miss him.

Thought I heard someone say pictures...guess it is PR only just as well. Clowns training seals to use hi tech spy tools while disguised as whales...while the spiders do the rigging. Who'd a think? Looks good, Augie - my shipyard flies are on layoff during the move if you need incentive pay for the spiders!

Good point, Allan. Horizontal relative to sea surface since that is where the shroud alignment would exert the force. Supports below to counter force exerted by chain plates when no shrouds attached and above to counter flex of mast when underway. As in so many aspects of the builds, it is important to understand the purpose to in turn understand the design. Channels were not only about absorbing strain but also about increasing the width of the ship slightly for mast stability and keeping the shrouds and deadeyes away from the rails.

I make a simple offer to provide snacks while we wait for the popcorn machine and look what happens - anarchy...white coated guys in sun glasses...pleas for cannon balls. Sigh... You folks are ALL nuts - Robbyn said so!!!!

Thanks, y'all. Ask Sjors for popcorn! I may be able to get a little bit done before we move, but not much. Will be packing the shipyard when I get home next weekend I hope to get a couple of hours of building in before I pack it up.

Unless, of course, certain moderators (who shall remain nameless, Danny) manipulate said image such as flipping it to a mirror image or altering the backgrounds.... Then, unfortunately, Google image Search provides absolutely useless items such as pictures of highrise buildings or similar.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
