Thanks so much Reg and the "likes". I'm definitly not going to attempt to do the inner scuppers. At this point, only disaster would be likely to follow. They would be largely invisible in any event.

While waiting for chapter11 parts, I looked for thing to do that did not require the parts. I decided on two. The first was the hull steps. Rather than using a scraper on a single strip of wood, as shown by Chuck, I opted to use a method I have used in the past, using two wood strips” . I used a 1/32” x 3/32” strip for the top of the step and a 1/16” x 1/16” strip for the bottom. For the frieze covered step, I could not successfully print on tissue paper, so just used printer paper with Titebond to wet the paper enough to fold and bend it over the step. The ends of that step were painted to match the frieze. Overall, I am pleased with the results.

The second item I did was to drill out the outer portion of the hull scuppers, a detail Chuck has chosen not to show. The holes were painted a dark gray, using an extra fine microbrush.

Finally. Enough focus and concentration have returned to allow me to complete the making, installation and rigging of the quarterdeck guns. While the results are not all that I hoped for, I am absolutely delighted to be back at work on Winnie again and making progress. 
 

Recovery is a slow process, particularly at my age, but I am far more optimistic about being able to complete this project than I Iwas when I  last posted. On to chapter eleven, when the parts become available.

Some of you may have wondered where I've been and what I have bee doing for the last couple of months without any progress on Winnie. The short answer is that I 've had some serious health issues that resulted in two  hospital stays. Even since being home, I have found it difficult to focus and concentrate on modeling. I also seem to have lost, at least temporarily, some hand dexterity. In sum, I have been unable to complete the quarterdeck gun rigging. I am now awaiting the release of the chapter 11 parts, in the hope that enthusiasm will be rekindled and I can continue modeling.

I've now completed the quarterdeck rail and the transom rail. I pretty much followed Chuck's instructions and sequence, including cutting down the transom frames before doing the quarterdeck rail. Not everything came out quite as straight as I would have liked. One change that I made from the sequence was to drill the holes for the gunport eyebolts and ringbolts before mounting the rail uprights, since I was sure that nothing good would come of trying to drill over and around the deck furniture and fixtures. I also added the eyebolts and ringbolts at the transom ports, as shown on the plans.

I had made up the fairleads, but somehow managed to vacuum them up and then compounded my stupidity by throwing away the laser sheets with the spares after completing the six needed. I will now have to scratch build them before moving on to the guns.

In this update, I have added the capstan pawls, the ladderway railing, the quarterdeck breastrail, the wheel and the binnacle. In doing this work, I made some choices: I decided to paint the entire breastrail black, rather than leave the uprights unpainted; I chose to do the ladderway  railing with wire stanchions and rope, as shown on the plans and as  I had done on the gundeck; I left the entire wheel bright, rather than paint the rim red; and I left off the friezes on the binnacle. All of these choices were a matter of personal preference except for the binnacle friezes, which were not used because the red color on the printouts could not be used with the red paint color that I have been using throughout the build, including on the binnacle.

Next up will be the quarterdeck railings.
