    Sorry...I thought I was on the last page, but now realize the pictures I was looking at when making that comment happened much earlier in your thread. The comments were out of context with the current situation. My compliment still stands...beautiful model!

    Now that you've mentioned it, my wife has learned of many of her ancestors who lost their heads to "the iron lady". One she was showing me just in the past couple of days was 60 years old when they lost their head.

    Does that paint defect correspond to an area where a spot filler putty was used underneath? It's a beautiful model. Hope you get this all sorted out.

    It's large when you're standing on shore looking at it, but very small in the middle of the ocean with 40' seas.

    Particularly at this small scale, I want to say how impressed I am with both of your models. They are outstanding in every way. Great job fellas!

    Are you freakin' kidding me? He's building a scale RC model battleship, mate. Why the heck would he model the ship with a gaping hole in the hull? Sheesh.

    One nice thing about building the printer from a kit: it familiarizes the novice with the parts associated with each of the common terms used when users discuss 3D printers. Until now, I had no idea really. Almost done with assembly now.

    Lol - That's exactly what my friend told me...to experiment with the settings. I have seen some guys use a piece of glass on the print bed. Thoughts on that?

    Bought a cheap one...but one my electronic engineer friend recommended. It's a Prusa i3 Started putting it together to night. Will probably be able to test it by Thursday. I like it because I will learn from this one and it's easily upgradeable. I feel there's no point in my spending too much for a printer when I have no idea yet how to use it. Will learn and upgrade as I go. Your steam ship looks great! Would love to try that.

    I bought my first 3D printer this month. It sat unopened for a week or two while I prepared a place for it to live. My friend with 3D printer experience helped me select it from an Ebay vendor. He says it has new features his doesn't have, so I'll be spending the next day or two assembling this thing and getting it ready to try a test print. I doubt I'll be printing out a ship model any time soon, but hey, at least it's a start. Any tips you guys can give me to start out will be appreciated.

    I can't get over how small these are. This would be a real eye test for me. Hat's off to you guys for taking on this level of difficulty. Everything I see that both of you have done looks outstanding.

    My thoughts exactly. I had no idea there were walkways inside the ship funnels like that. First time I have ever seen that detail modeled. As Carl said, the details captured in card here are astonishing.

    That makes a huge difference, indeed. The proper background, lighting, and camera/settings is an art form. I only wish I knew how to do those things so well.

    My wife has always been so supportive of me and my crazy model building habits. But then again, she knew what she was getting into from the start. Here's a picture of me and my beautiful bride from almost 45 years ago, and I am doing (guess what?)...a model building project.

    I like it...a lot. Never done a display like yours, but it's on my to-do list.

    I'm a modeler who shares interest in a wide variety of types. Right now, I am working on car models. I'll get back to the ships in a while when the urge strikes.

    I spent time on the big blue when I was a kid...with my Dad and his boat. The photos RGL shared reminded me of why I never wanted to join the Navy. You're just a little bitty cork out there bobbing up and down, to and fro on the ocean. And a ship the size of a destroyer has got to be a miserable experience for an extended time out there in rough seas. My hat's off to those who endure/d it.

    Looking at all the various 3D printers out there on the market, one of the most obvious differences is in the size of the maximum print dimensions. Is the limitation to print dimension due to the size of the printer itself, or is it a limitation due to other hardware/software? What limits the size of print?

    I am partial to the name, Gwen. Gwendolyn was my Mother's name and everyone called her Gwen. Never known anyone else with that name.
