  1. A bit of fresh rust on the shelves. I have about 60 Turnbuckles to attach to the eyebolts above the booms which are for the stays.
  2. Bit more rust on the net shelf and started to rig the 30 torpedo booms. These lines will run up the hull on one end and to the bottom of the net.
  3. The torpedo net shelves come is 3 pieces each side. I painted them on the fret and used chipping fluid of reveal a red oxide undercoat. I want to do a fair bit more work on them now they’re on the hull. Very fragile and somewhat nerve wracking to place.
  4. I use CA pretty much exclusively. Sets solid in a few seconds, or you get the slow set stuff.
  5. The Infini upgrade includes propeller guards and solid bars which in real life are chains that can pull them up. Thus the 1/700 chain. Needs a touch up but I’ll do that after I put the torpedo net shelves on nd I can do another round of weathering. I’m thinking the deck is mostly done. You can just make out the name plate plate at the stern.
  6. Original photos of Seydlitz show coaling winches, which are produced by a Russian company (I think) but are very nice. The Modelkasten reel is 1/700 chain (it’s twisted rope but looks like chain.
  7. There’s this little black rectangle on the rear deck which is a brake for the cable that runs out the paravane or kite from a rear capstan.
  8. It does not seem like much, but 2 days work to rig the railings. I have only done a single rail amidships as this appears on original photos. I’ve also added the 12 waist gun barrels and 6 88mm’s.
  9. Tried, wrong at this scale. Stepping back it’s not too bad. The decks would be hardwood in real life. So if wet would look almost black, if dried out, grubby. I can play with it a bit but if real it would be a like plastic deck. Using pastels with a fixer will lose the detail of the planks.
  10. Returning to the forecastle, I removed the home made chain stoppers and replaced them with Pelican hooks which are correct. Three are loose as I intend to have an anchor hanging down. You can just make out lines running to the capstan and bollards which will be run down to the torpedo net booms later.
  11. Back at work now, which has slowed me up. Lots of tiny details to collate again before the next update. It’s now up to me build partners.
