  1. Dutchman: thank you for your encourichment... I take your comment more or less as an indication that my ambition to build an acceptable/decent model seems to be near enough. Fright: Thank you. Yes! It seems you really do. Its hard and challenging but at the same time very enjoyable. Dilbert55: To which part are you refering?
  2. Shrouds and more rigging... but still too slow due to lack of expirience. In a more than a few cases I may do and redo a stage that isnt good enough at the first assemply. Am sure that my second project of such a ship will go quicker and have a finer result.
  3. no worries. Just patience and use a stain of your choice. After you sand off any glue leftovers with a thin pinsel or small cloth apply carefully the stain. For extra protection, you can even mask the nearby planks with a mask liquit. There is a good one .from revell
  4. I let the hull planks with just a natural colorlesd varnish. But I gave a slighly darker tone to the kielon all its length. Same tone I gave also to the deck plankd. I liked it. But its a matter of personal taste.
  5. Nils am asking a bit late, but I dind understood how she fall down from the table. Christos
  6. there are different products from birchwood and other producers for various materials.... alu for example. But even for silver pattina and gold.
  7. ohhj guys..... no I understand why some times I had problems with Birchwood Casey Brass Black! I wasnt letting it to set! OK thx to you now I know. Christos ps. indeed it realy gives a wonderfull true wrough iron look.
  8. HMS Warrior: Am just finding out (I am a Cypriot) that her sister ship (were two identicsl ships, both build and lunched as ironclad class ships between 1859-1861) HMS Black Prince, with his captain, then the Duke of Edinburg, was one of the ships that came to Cyprus, when back in 1878, the British Empire was to take over Cyprus from the Ottoman Empire. It was a squad of 7 or 8 ships coming from Suda bay (Crete Greece) under Vice Admiral Lord John Hay and his flagship HMS Minotaur.* Not as HMS Warrior, Black Prince was twice renamed after 1901 and finaly sold as scrap in1923.** * Sir G.Hill’s book: “A History of Cyprus” Vol III. 9. Nice start there! Keep it up. Am goong to follow your log. I have builded the Amati Drakkar last year. I really enjoyed it. Not only building the model itself but also the reading and searching the vikings ship building history. Christos
  10. Yards prepaired... and standing rigging started since more than a few days. Fist time making a 18th century rigging. Complicated compared with my ancient model builds of the 3rd and 4th cent. bc and even the my viking ship build (9th cent. ac). BUT LOTS OF FAN! Reading books and working again my rusted engineers mind 😡.
  11. wuao! just beautifull! Its a 4k movie Nils... and it could have easily been the modern edition of the classik "One thausand and one nights". Christos why didnt you cut off the bases of the figures?
  12. Nils great work, that has anyway allready been said... but where is the crew? I saw them last time as you allowed them to go to the taverne... Did you contacted the naval police? Wish and hope you find your crew soon. Christos
  13. I think its fine what you did for two reasons. First it looks better... you are right. But mainly its the fact that thoses fences are part of the health and safety legislation rules that the french authoritys demand in order to licence the ship. Also those fences never existed on the original Hermione. So considering your preference not to build the replica Hermione... well done. Surely it looks nicer, in fact I made also some thoughts not to use those fences but as you know I stick to the replica version.
  14. I gave a closer look to Stefano... its has a very personal line and a lot of grace! Its also a big model... more than a meter long. And so far it sure reflects that line and the ships grace awesomely. christos
  15. thank you donrobinson. I did my best... it could have been better, but its not bad for a start. I enjoy it very much.
  16. hi Marc, so here is what I got: in the packing are 4 reels two are smaller. Three are black and the one (one of the two bigger) is brown or better is beige. The instructions and part list call it "tea". Parts list position #8 "rope black fine" (I mesuared apr. 0.5 mm thickness) (its a small reel, 7m long as state on the label of the reel) and position #10 "rope tea" (as you see its the beige one) (I mesuared again apr. 0.5 mm thick) and its a big reel, 60m long as stated on. attach picture of ropes packing label and both ropes hope that helps.... if anything you are always wellcome to come back
