  1. You and me both. That’s why my Victory is only half complete and sits on a shelf now. Sometimes I get in the mood for a battle wagon and then I work on the Victory, but most of the time I want to work on those ships I find beautiful.
  2. Welcome!
  3. And four anchors, awaiting sealing/painting: They’re not perfect, but they’ll work quite well.
  4. The anchors and anchor stocks are mostly done: As can be seen, I used the box from some snack cakes as raw material. I essentially layer up the card and then shape and trim as needed with a fresh scalpel blade, which is extremely sharp. I made the banding from a sheet of scrap paper that I had laying around. Next up, I will final shape the anchor shanks and assemble the whole thing. When working from card it is beneficial to seal pieces after assembly, being the sealant stiffens up the card and makes it easier to work with. Using CA with thin pieces helps too. I did that a lot when building the Solferino due to the small scale (1/200). Once you seal everything and layer up the card, after giving the glue time to cure, card works similar to wood.
  5. I use the same brand. If you’re painting plastic, I’d seal it first with a sealant. I use the matte paint, personally.
  6. Welcome!
  7. Very nicely done!
  8. Pre-Dreadnoughts are some of my favorites as well. I have several in my stash from Orel and AAMM that I am looking forward to building sometime in the future. I look forward to your Baltimore build when you decide to build it!
  9. I’ve been sick all week, so I’ve taken the opportunity to relax, and have been doing some low-key model making. All yards, the boom and the gaff are done. The main pieces for the four anchors are also either made or in the process of being layered up. I still need to make the flukes. Part of card modeling is making lots of pieces to get proper thickness. It’s just the nature of the beast. I used the measurements and based my drawings for the anchors off the drawings and tables in Zu Mondfeld’s “Historic Ship Models”. They are actually sized for a 20 gun brig, which I figured would be of equivalent size and weight to this Cat.
