So I ordered myself some dope but whereas I remembered the heavy stinking cellulose compound they nowadays have a water-based version, which apparently doesn't stink and is much better for the environment. Not having used that stuff before though, it is going to be an interesting time.

Is the new water based version this product?

I think I have the heavy stinking cellulose

  2. Here is a video of edge colouring with water colours which is specifically aimed at card modellers but maybe it could be applied to other forms.

The background music is repetitive and annoying (and that's being kind) however you can put it on mute as there is no commentary.

Special thanks to Captain Slog for pointing this video out to me.

PS Not sure why the link isn't replaced with the video image  - is there something I have done incorrectly.

  3. Mark ,

Thanks, I did see them on Amazon.com.au as well, I purchased the Carson Magnivisors from the same company, trouble is I assumed they were coming from within Australia until they quoted me the PP!! fact is they are US based! I didn't mind for the Magnivisors as they are rarer then hens teeth in Australia but I wouldn't do the same for the knife.

Hopefully Spotlight realise soon why the blades are not selling being that they are useless without the knife ! :)

  4. Apologies if this is covered elsewhere I did a brief search within this forum but didn't find anything.

I am looking at replacing my existing downlights with LEDs - I currently have 35 watt halogen globes (bulbs) fitted in the downlights giving off 465 lumens - I could upgrade the bulbs to 55 watt which will give off around 600 to 700 lumens.

So I am seeking comments on the type of LEDs to fit in terms of brightness (lumens) and colour (kelvin) which would best suit scale modelling. The 35 watts halogens are absolutely useless and give off a very soft light which is not good for modelling.

I have attached some tables I gleaned form a website on different types of globes (bulbs)

  5. I recently purchased a Fiskars Fingertip Detail Knife - which holds a #11 blade (& maybe others) - I am finding it essential for real small detailed cuts as due to its design (it wraps around your forefinger) it gives you so much control.

They also have a Fingertip Swivel Detail Knife which holds a special blade but I have not been able to purchase it locally.

  6. Chris,

For me it is not a 'good deals' issue, it's more lack of trust. I suppose if I used it, I could, by elimination, locate the trusted sellers, however I may waste a great deal of money doing so which would negate any potential saving.

The sellers all seem to be one man bands who don't care about negative reviews due to the fact they are able to,  as far as I can tell, manipulate the review system.

So I may as well do business with renown online sellers who come with good customer support and for whom I can see feedback from people I know or trust. i.e.people on this forum.

Irrespective, thank you for your article.

  7. That YP article seems to be British humour at its subtlest!

"task force" , "visitor strategy", "generations of employment" , "its that far reaching"

I think Mr Blackburn had his tongue firmly planted in his cheek when he made that quote - either the journos are stupid (not a stretch by any means) or more likely, in on the joke.

  8. Winsor and Newton Series 7 comes with good reviews - didn't know there was an acrylics issue I had never heard anyone mention this before.

I use the Tamiya Pros mainly because I like the grip to be as close to the tip as possible and generally you cannot go wrong with Tamiya, their tools are somewhat pricey but my view of Tamiya is you tend to get what you pay for.

I still have the full set of the black handle versions but I do possess one white handle version, I think the black handle is of slightly less quality than the white handle version but I don't think I could notice the difference! The downside is the pros do not come in the larger brush sizes, but Tamiya have this covered with the rest of their range.

One product I do use with brushes is this brush cleaning soap from Masters

    Frame that email :)

I have found shipping from Poland to Australia to be cost prohibitive, much cheaper, for me, to order from Cornwall, their PP was extremely reasonable, no more than 5GBP, if I remember correctly.

Checking my atlas :) I found Poland to be nearer to Australia then the UK, so go figure.

Cornwall sell everything (masts, sails, blocks) but not the rope, which only seems to available direct from Shipyard, however, luckily for me, there are a lot of alternatives for rope on the market.

    The gun carriages look great.
