Still off work due freezing temperatures, although to some -2 to -5°c is not cold 😁 So I've begun to make the rail posts, just 3 for now and will probably use 0.75mm rigging line for the rope rail. A test, I'm open to suggestions on this as I'm not really sure about it 🤔OMG this macro setting shows I need to tidy the painting up. The stanchions will also be either painted or blackened. Gratitude for stopping by and watching 😉 Cheers

A little bit more done, the cap rails are painted and glued, I'm thinking of doing stanchions and rope as on HMC Alert. Finally have a acceptable ratchet for the windlass, just have to decide wether to go with one or two. After cutting the ratchet off and dry fitting to the windlass, I still haven't made my mind up. Thanks for looking in! Cheers

She's progressing nicely EG, I'm also liking the impromptu history lessons along the way. Thank you my friend 🙂

Well winter has come and low temperatures have stopped my going to work, so I'm doing a bit on the Cutter. Been making the cap rails from odd assortments of wood, which as they are going to be painted black, wood type doesn't matter. Lots of sanding, painting, sanding and painting again🙂 Also still wrestling with the ratchet part of the windlass, I'm on to #5 at the time of writing 😬. Thanks to everyone for continuing to follow and the likes. Cheers 😉👍

Throwing a spanner in😉 the works, it could have been a stray Congreve rocket! notoriously inaccurate, so could have been a case of friendly fire. The rocket regiments patron was the Prince Regent, so they were foisted on Wellington, who did not like them, but were frightening to face for both cavalry and infantry that they tolerated in the British forces due to demoralising the enemy troops.

I agree with Matt, in my humble amateur opinion, both W1 and W2 look fine, no!, more than fine, I would be happy with either version, but we all find faults with our own builds, that others may not see. I know if I built another Winnie I would use liteply, not mdf, for the bulkheads, for ease of cutting and fairing. At the end of the day it is your build and if you'd feel happier doing mk3, go for it. Btw the white hull looks good and you have W1 wood so best of both🙂

I found the British TV show Called Battleground and hosted by Edward Woodward. I got two of the battles wrong, they were Gettysburg and Battle of the Nile, not Bull Run and Trafalgar. I also took some years off me as I was 13 not 8🙄 that's what happens when you try to recall events from 43yrs ago They did six episodes and they are on YouTube

Some 40 + years ago there was a tv show on Saturday morning in England that refought famous battles in miniature, the ones I remember best were, 1st Bull Run, Waterloo and Trafalgar. The tables must have been 10' × 20' and the miniatures were always fantastic, basically it's what got an eight year old boy into proper wargaming instead of setting up knocking down games. Mark do you happen to know the name of the show? I'd love to see it.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
