  1. Sewing pins are cheaper and easier to source than wire stiff enough for the job required, 😁 necessity is the mother of invention. Great stuff Phil, this really is fun to watch
  2. Apparently his piles were playing up as well. Definitely a close run thing, to us Wellingtons words. I do think if Napoleon had been at Quatre Bras the day before, the battle at Waterloo probably wouldn't have happened and the British army would be experiencing a retreat to the coast harried by French cavalry. As it was Marshall Ney commanded and did not start an attack till late in the day which subsequently let the British rearguard hold them while the rest of the army slipped away.
  3. Thanks to all who hit the like button👍 So I began the planking on the port side with the external bulwarks and to just below the main wale. I've also lined the rest of the hull for planking below the wale. I shall take a bit more time with this side and attempt to improve on the starboard side!! thanks for looking in. Cheers till next time 😃
  4. From card and filler to a good looking hull!! Great work Phil 👍😁
  5. No it wasn't heavily manned but as it was sat on the main road across the valley and in the centre any columns attacking down this road would have been enfiladed by the farm garrison and morale weakened before they reached Wellingtons line, also once past the garrison could sally out and attack the rear of the column that was being blasted by the rolling platoon volleys from the British line in front. So he didn't want a thorn like that in his side. In my opinion, if he had left Hougoument and concentrated on his centre and his right flank he probably could of routed the British and her allies before Prussian forces appeared on his right. But that is only my opinion with the benefits of hindsight and a wealth of historical information. Other better informed people may have differ reasons for his distraction with the farm and Hougoument.
  6. The odds are swinging in favour of the British now! Only 1 to 2😆 Keep it up and you'll have both forces done by autumn!!! Very nice work
  7. I'd forgotten you'd got this on the backburner as well. Looking forward to more updates 😏👍
  8. Excellent re-modelling with the back of him OC. 50/50 is a good compromise. They're coming along nicely.
  9. I bought one last month to try and save having to pay for pre-milled planks, have had decent success but would recommend also buying the 0.6mm blade as the one supplied makes more sawdust than plank☹ If buying in the UK, CHRONOS are pretty good, not the cheapest but supply ready for UK use, plus standard delivery in the price. Just my two pennies worth.
  10. @Kevin thankyou for that link, there was alot I didn't know in it eg the Dutch and German troops 👍 @Canute yes, if they are as well painted as the French, they will look superb. The 60th did get a mention in one of the sharpe books, Sharpes Regiment I think it was, but it's a shame they are not as well known as the 95th🤔
  11. And to good effect in all accounts It was an effective way of skirmishing, the British army formed the 60th light regiment from willing Americans but I cant remember wether is was before the 1812 war or after, they also were rifle green but without the black trim.
  12. Underling!! Damn your eyes sir, he's an officer!! Or Lord Cardigan in Waterloo to Wellington "I appear to have lost my leg sir"
  13. As the Duke said: The French system of conscription brings together a fair sample of all classes; ours is composed of the scum of the earth — the mere scum of the earth. It is only wonderful that we should be able to make so much out of them afterwards.
  14. I see what you mean, I think in the circumstances perhaps they should go into battle fully kitted up, we wouldn't want you to send untidy troops into the fight "old chap, what!!" 😆😉
  15. Thanks, and that sounds about the right ratio, 4 to 1 😁 Hmmm sniping from the sandpits across the road from the farm😏. Good strategy Ken take the french line from the flank😉👍
  16. Neat and tidy, something I can only aspire to, great woodworking Glenn 👍
  17. The attacking force getting slowly bigger, I hope the KLG will be ready for the French assault 😋 Very nice work so far OC, I'm really enjoying this project 👍
  18. Hi Emmet, nice start and some good problem solving. Must be a nice change from Victory?
  19. The cannon are looking great Tim, and when you've rigged them they'll be even better. All in all your whole build is super 😃😉
  20. Seems ages since I was here last, but I'm still sorting out the stern frames and window formers. As a break from working on the hull skeleton I had a practice cutting some planks. for a first ever attempt I'm reasonably pleased although I shall be buying the thinner saw blade for my proxxon, as with the throw away planks which I wont be using, I only managed to get 12 planks. The kerf being thicker than the cut plank I assume with 11 sheets you need about 23 from each?? Thanks for looking in and the likes. Cheers Edit:- the Cedar from Chuck is beautiful, and smells good too😁
  21. Most of the light skirmishing troops tended to leave unnecessary equipment with the regimental baggage as it gave them a better freedom of movement. The 95th and 60th Rifles only took their full quota of cartridges (60 per man), a quantity of small soft leather patches for a tighter therefore more accurate shot, horn of fine milled powder and a canteen of "water"!!! I'm not so sure of the French but I would assume they went packless also.
  22. Hello, or g'day if you like😉 From the sounds of it this could be a breeze with your previous 😁, looking forward to the photos of the aforementioned "footy" Good luck with your Oseberg and have fun👍
  23. and a slightly late welcome to MSW Your keel in the photo looks like a good start on a viking drakkar, hope to see the full log soon 😃
  24. Your question had me searching and in old English it's walu and means Stripe or weal, so by that definition it is a raised strip which is exactly what it is on a ship. wale also means a ridge on a textured woven fabric such as corduroy.
  25. They were fun though 😁, hours and hours to stand them all up then refight Waterloo, Salamanca and Talavera.
