Nice saves, Denis. As you see, you'll be needing some additional PE ... strictly a kit bound set doesn't work ... Progressing steadily!

Wonderful, Michael. You make her shine. Funnels look good. I was afraid you might pull some paint off with the masking tape, glad it turned out so well

Michael, Greg (RGL) has had some problems too with Vallejo primer on brass and plastic. He pointed me towards the Tamiya, as it dries very quickly and you can spray immediately after if needs be. Naturally it's better to let it cure for a day. Although, I have been quite impatient with priming, and the results are good.with my neglected curing period. It is better to spray outside or a ventilated room with a fan to suck the vapours out. I have an attick above the garage where I have my spray booth, so I won't get the stench into the house. With Vallejo I could pull whole sheets of primer of and lay bare the brass again, even after a month curing ...

By the way, on the Vendetta build I did, I used a mixture of Vallejo Ivory & Wood to get a colour I thought to be near. A bit darker could be right for shading the blast bags

Michael, Lately I've been building with a lot of PE, and found out that Vallejo primers do not stick/hold well, neither on bare plastic, nor on bare brass. I would advise you to use the Tamiya rattle cans to start the ground work, and work from there, after the base priming you can pretty much use any type of paint . Lovely job on the funnel though.

That's one I need. The aft structure is noticeably shorter than the one in the kit, so I'll need to do some bashing. I found out the torpedo tubes are not quads but pentads like these (courtesy of shapeways - copy right Micro Master)

THe only reason to switch sides is to avoid chafing the sail and having either to repair, or replace it more often

Anybody is welcome so too a flying Dutchman. Though this will be a somewhat slower ride than the previous build. I'll be needing some time to research weathering techniques

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
