Great work Greg. Barrels ...? Don't mention those ... I've got 123 to go for the tripple AA guns ... jumpy little bastards
-
It's good you are stubborn mate ... that will make you finish the work at hand. That trapezium muscle is a bit over extending yourself, you know you should do it with your hands right - by the way left or right side ... Railing is looking good despite your muscle pains

the 2.5 m is to the top of one of its wings when pointing straight up, which means the housing will be just over half of that (~ 1.5 m). For other mills have a look here: Dutch Windmills

Have to agree with you Dan. Looks a bit messy, like the parts are discoloured. When I look at it, the proving of the print went all wrong, I've done that, and it can be quite hard to get it right, but when one pays for it, it should be done properly! The spacers and additonal strengthning give it sturdy look ... nice going

Should you have thickend the "chain gutter" on your previous builds too? The wheathering looks really good on the bow and forecastle, as does the colour. You picked up these trades very quickly mate ... inspiring ... very much so!!!

Welcome aboard mate. Thanks, very much appreciated. You might be astonished with yourself if you give it a try. To be honest, so was I when I first started If you do it regularly, it is "a piece of cake", although, I do not know about Greg (RGL) his magnificent weathering, looks far more challenging than a plain spray job Cheers

Thanks my friend, still a ways to go, although the sheets with PE are showing lots of empty spaces ... Darn, must ask if I can upload larger pictures for you Piet Hope you and Gwen are living on the sunny side of life again!

Don't you run the risk of getting that lovely coppery shine back on the ram once you start bending, and shaping ...

Thanks for the link mate, but I got the plastic thing at 1:350. However, it is tempting ... You, on the other hand, can have your pick and get your fleet into shape

Dennis, Thanks! This is just grey primer from Vallejo ... the grey top layer will be darker (IJN Grey). PE, well for this tool version there is a heap. I found out that the kit expected the tripple 25mm AA guns to be the covered type. So I got my new AOTS on Yamato and Musashi out, and it appeared that from the thirty five tripple AA guns only six are the covered type. The Fly Hawk set only has PE for eight uncovered, and for twenty seven covered (plastic & a bit of PE), the Pontos set has twenty nine uncovered. So that was an easy choice, at least to get all looking a like ... The difference between eight or seventeen pieces ... why take the easy way out

I think about 1.5x - 2x. As far as I know he doesn't. I drop him an email, after I find it

So you are tellin' us you're old ???? A pitty I could only find you a paper version of the Yamato in 1:250 else it would have been a nice companion to both ...

Nice progress, Marcus. Lovely detailed skylights too. I haven't planned a time to build the windmill myself. I'm still pondering wether I will build it at the given scale or if I blow them up. BTW I got the original plans from the chap here in Noord-Holland too.

I'm glad you pointed that huge failure out ... it would really be a thorn in my eye (as we say) I like your explanations and giving the Japanese names of different parts/segments. I love the way you tied down the beam ... gives some authenticity to your build, makes it come a live ...as does the stain you use
-
That's a lot of detail you are adding, and a lot of fiddly stuff it is too. You have been busy mate! She is coming together nicely!!

No showable progress. Presently I am making the tripple 25mm AA guns ... 29 of them, each 17 pieces I cut them per type, batch production, I am at the second piece which needs to be bent into shape ... there are only six pieces which do not need to be bent ... at least I will have a couple of nights "bendertainment" ... see y'all soon ... in about a week and a half, two weeks ...

Robin, Good to have you wandering in again. With reference to the missing pictures, you could make a composition of most previous (missing) pictures to show what you've done ... just an idea ... Looking forward to some progress, cheers mate

It isn't surprising it is wearing you down, especially if you have been hoarding for a long time. The driving to and fro when moving most/all items yourself, and getting the other house ready, know it, done it thrice, forth time coming up next year probably ... not looking forward to it either. The only advantage ... regular cleaning out. No children to help you with the move? Anyway, I wish you and Judy lots of strength, and a cool head

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
