I purchased this kit last year and had the same issue (as many others have)...with the mast holes not lining up with deck, as well as my side to side was off by quite a bit. however, I did not realize this until I had already spent hours smoothing the hull, so its deep in the closet until my disgust subsides and I decide to fill the holes and try again. I question the quality control with whoever is cutting and drilling the wood, as I also have a Bluejacket CSS Virginia that does not line up with the plans at all (planning on scratch building a new hull since it appears simple enough). It is a nice looking ship, so best of luck!

Welcome from a fellow New Yorker! I think the tool kits are over priced for what you get, so be careful!

Well I’m officially over the hill as I turned 40 today...so I guess I’m in it for the long haul 😆 i worked on the railing along the top...it’s amazing how much there is to even the smallest of projects.

Wow, thank you for the compliment! I am super excited that my log helped a fellow builder. The instructions were terrible and the rigging guidance was absent. I did enjoy it though. Thanks again for the compliment and welcome to the site again! -
Beautiful work! Looks like after ten years you didn’t miss a beat. 😊

Welcome! Very nice looking longboat 😊. It’s my understanding that the longboat kit isn’t exactly considered beginner. So it’s much harder then it looks, so you’ve done even better then you thought! And of course we are our own worst critics. -

Finished the siding...ha! I’m sure it’s called something else but that’s what it felt like. Shaping the door way was fun. and with the door...I need to do the hinges before I glue it in. Until another day...

Thank you Mike! I did see if I could take a piece from either the Berlin Kit, or out of the Victory Cross Section which are both Corel, however, no such size match was in either kit! I actually have recently acquired the missing plank (slightly a different color) and have finished planking the exterior just last week. I am now working on the door and finishing the area surrounding. I will post pictures some time this week...In between waiting for glue to dry, I have also been working on a POB Artesania Latina - Grand Lijon (not sure if I want another unfinished log out there) The car is a 1972 Chevelle I purchased when I was 21...which was 19 years ago (in a few days) its amazing to think I have almost owned it 20 years myself. Work and life has been a bit crazy lately.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
