  1. Thank you very much Bob and Patrick, you are welcome to accompany this build from begin onwards.... Thought it should be something smaller than the KWdG and a bit more relaxing to do this time.. Nils
  2. Introduction: One of the ship types that I`m interested in is the Chebec design. As a model I did`nt want to get it too complicated and too much detailed like for instance the build of the "Le Requin" Chebec would be. So the choise fell on a scratch build model after a basic Amati plan 1:60, that would be enlarged by 25% to scale 1:48, resulting in a new total length of 900 mm. To give the child / project a name, the ship will be "Eagle of Algier", and representing a (fictive) one one of those Mediteranian, North African fast trade- and pirate- Chebecs of the African Barbary coast around mid 18th century. It would have been "Falcon of Algier", if I were able to find a suitable falcon head for using as an appropriate figure head. The ships boat will be a 27 Ft longboat / pinnace after F.H. Chapmans Chart PIXLI figure #14 (Architectura Navalis Mercatoria), scaled to 1:48 With this build I´ll be experimenting with the stand up mode of keel and bulkheads, positioned by a jig fixture, from which the framework can easily be removed afterwards. Usualy I build my models in keel up position. Because the "frames" will become quite fragile, due to thin sizes, I choose 5,2 mm thick ply for the bulkheads, but with 8 layers, (the delivered ply had even 10 layers !) to provide the required strength. The bulkheads will be cut out to resemble frames, and the deck beams will be temporarily cut away in order to fit out the interior hull, then replacing the deck beams again afterwards. It is intended to do 1 layer planking of the hull outside shell only. Enjoy... Nils already enlarged Amati plan by 25% A building instruction with sequential pics, comes along in Italian / English with the plan little paint can for scaling... the name giving figure head (metal diecast) cutting out of the paper bulkheads for further treatment beginning the positioning gig for keel and bulkheads fixture progress... ships boat (may be subject to slight modification, to suit needs)
  3. Many thanks to Pawel, Jeff, Michael, Ian, B.E., and Sailor123.... , Pawel, thanks for that amimated applause... Jeff, will be starting a seperate new build log very soon... Michael, Thanks for your nice words, I`m pleased you liked it... Ian, Many thanks for your words, glad you liked my little collection.. B.E., I am myself surprized how relatively fast the collection grows, thanks for your words, much appreciated Sailor1234..., please find my post of Monday this week, in answer to Jeffs question. It will be a Mediteranian, North African Chebec Nils
  4. Beautiful work Ken, I admire the way you are doing the hull, good technique ! Nils
  5. Hi Ian, congratulations to your beautiful built Brazzera, A lovely and well built model of a traditional boat Nils
  6. Hi Dan, thanks for your input here... I also have that fine plate out of F.Chapmans Chebec, and shall use where feasible. From That Chapman`s publication I chose out of plate PIXLI Fig. 14 as the Chebec`s longboat and enlarged it to scale 1:48 Nils
  7. That will be a very nice and interesting scratch build Kees, looking forward eagerly to your keellaying in due time.... Nils
  8. Hi Jeff, Thanks for you`re word, much appreciated..... To answer your question..., I`m preparing to build a mediteranian Chebece, like the ones used and sailed at the north African "Barbary coast" for traders and also pirates. I purchased a base-plan from Amati already in scale 1:60, and am enlarging that by 25 %, so that the new scale will be 1:48 with a total length of 900 mm. The plan drawing needs to be modified in order to suit my needs though..... When all is prepared and thought through it will start as a seperate scratch-build log Nils
  9. Lovely work Cabrapente, love those storage areas under deck, very realistic, and the beautiful wooden tones are a delight to see !! Nils
  10. Hi Martin, nice work, I like, on the balustrade with the sheaves... Nils
  11. Many thanks go to Denis, Bob, Grant and Michael, and to all the likes for clicking the button.... Denis, the room capacity is now exhausted spacewise for displaying ship models.... Bob, Thanks for your words, I`m pleased that the rather detailed build could be stood through in one long run... Grant, glad you like the collection... Michael, yes, she comes up with quite good ideas sometimes.. Nils
  12. Hi Dan, thanks for your kind words, I`m pleased you like my little "museum", at least the models wo`nt need to suffer dust over the months to come... Nils
  13. last update.... today the KWdG went into it`s glass case in my hobby room.... The shelf was lowered a bit in order to compensate the case hight, an with the admirals help the glass surfaces were cleaned inside / outside before closing the bonet and everthing was fitted into position. This now closes the project... Nils
  14. Hi Bob, your Halifax build is coming along very well. love that that clean and tidy planking job... Nils
  15. Chris, give it a chance and Google : Preiser 65303 Preiser 65302 The figures are in period fashions around 1900 and in Gauge "O", which I think is scale 1:43, available in worldwide web shops (do`nt know in down under) Nils
  16. Hi Mij, I very much like the way you are building the modified Chebec after the basic Amati plan in scale 1:60 Well done ! I am also at the piont of building this ship and am in the preperation phase right now. The bought plan from Amati was though enlarged by 25 %, turning out the model length to 90 cm, and so then being in a scale of 1:48 instead Very much liked are your carvings and the way you did these. Lovely the eagles and the bow figure head. I just came across your log by coincidense and wish you all the best with the further fitting out of this nice model for the case if it is not already completed at this time...... (the fore last post by Mark is over a year old...) Nils
  17. A beautiful build Mark, that view from aft on the rudder is very impressive Nils
  18. Hi Karl, sorry to hear of the damage and the related give up of the model... are you again going for 1:36 scale and for the aft half only ?. Wish you all the best with the third run for it... Nils
