  1. Does anyone know the size of the nuts and bolts included with this jig? I wanted to substitute some thumb screws, wing nuts and some longer bolts. I thought they were #10-32 but that doesn't seem to work. I am guessing that they are metric.
  2. I finished the ship building jig and set up the Victory that I started several years ago, I need to get back to it to relieve the boredom of tying the ratlines on my Granado.
  3. While assembling deck house-part 24 I seem to have come across a printing error. There are two different parts 24d, and no part 24c. I believe that the longer part 24d is actually 24c and that is where I put it. I also printed out a second copy of 24, cut off the railings and glued them on the inside edge. Thought it would look better than painting. i think what I am talking about is clear from the pictures.
  4. I was initially surprised at the number of ventilation pipes on the ship. But then it hit me, at the time she was built she most likely didn't have any air conditioning below decks. It would have been hotter'n hell in there! So lots of pipes to bring in fresh air.
  5. Before I started the masts and rigging I toted my Granado kit around the country camping. Everything fit into a large toolbox. I chose one that was more than 24" inside dimension since that was the length of all the wood pieces. The fittings I kept in a plastic Plano tackle box. I worked on it from Florida to Montana to Prince Edward Island, Canada over several years. However, once the masts went in it stayed in my workshop. Too much danger of damage at that point.
  6. The workers at he Danubius shipyard had a busy week tearing out the funnel braces and replacing then with sturdier material--styrene. Hope it doesn't melt when they fire up the boilers. They also completed the 3 ventilation houses between the funnels.
  7. Thanks for the hint Dan. The braces (so that's what they are) kept falling apart on me. I think I will make some new ones and use your suggestion.
  8. can't get it to work. This the better picture; I adjusted the lighting
  9. Can't figure out how to remove a posted photo
  10. A better picture and have capped the tiny cylinders around the funnels.
  11. This is a very interesting looking ship and the kit looks to be of very high quality.
  12. the photo isn't very good. I was in a hurry. Will take some better shops next time. Quite noticeable that I photo-shopped out the work bench clutter. LOL
  13. making slow progress. All 4 funnels are now in.
  14. Thanks for the reminder. A paste wax after varnish is a good plan.
  15. I have been wondering if a few coats of varnish on the building slip would help to clean up glue spills and the like. Thoughts?
  16. i received my building slip a couple days ago. I will depend heavily on this build log. Aydingocer's photos are much clearer than the directions.
  17. Amazing model. I thought it was the real thing.
  18. I just checked the link and it is up to $88.95 + shipping--total would be over $100. Hobby World USA has it for $64.99 +$13 shipping
