Planking disaster
Knocklouder replied to sgrez's topic in Building, Framing, Planking and plating a ships hull and deck
I wouldn't use contact cement. After your hull is filled and sanded , I would brush a coat of wood glue, thined 25% - 30% water. Then when planking a good coat of wood glue. This is what I do, other's have there way. It looking good though Bob M. -
I use the same stuff, and found it does chip a bit. So what I did was after they were blackened , and dryed, I spray a coat of High Heat Babecue paint, it works for me. Knocklouder

Great work Congratulations , yes protect your work, it is fantastic. Some like to clean their models . I don't like dusting lol so bought a case for some, they have been under plexiglass for two years now no dust on them, yours doesn't have to be this big, it was a few hundred bucks to get made, but one for just one ship won't be that much i also have 6 in this case. A display case keeps your work well proteced . Great work. Bob M.

Awesome work my friend, your work is truly inspirational, when I see your work it drives me to do better. Lately, many times I ask myself, what would Keith do. That's why I got another river boat, and I do hope you get a Harreit lane, we can a group build lol. Just floored at the dollar picture, Awesome. Bob M

This is my little part of the world, my shipyard. Most of the thinking goes on in this chair, To the lright of that is the work bench with the serving machine on it, ready To be put away till the next build. On the other side of the room is one of my display cases, I have another upstairs with 5 finished ships in it. and finally in this corner the paint booth. That's my shipyard Bob M. -
Well the shipyard is under quarantine, seems I have come down with strep throat a cold, head ach running nose and eyes are watering so bad I can't see. The officer looked around and found a tangle mess. Kurt told him to cut me some slack. Yesterday we sorted out the lines and numbered them according. Then the sickness hit 🤮. So we are packed it in for awhile , take care my friends, off to bed . Rigging will continue, Bob M.

Finished seizing the shrouds to the masts, quite happy with the way thet turn out. Not a blob of rope like on my frist builds , or should I say a blob of CA. Lol. I even remembered the Burton pendent, but Hornblower was quick to point out that I fogot the two on the Mizzen mast. He says to tell @Keith Black that I have lost my mind.. Not only did I forget the pendents I also mounted the ship to a swivel base so I can spin it around eazlie, I can hear Keith now yelling NOOOO !!! Also Keith the Harriet Lane is a soiled hull. I have looked at several logs here for it and hope I can do as well , I know for sure I will have the time of my life being a river boat man again lol. Hornblower says my plan for keeping the shrouds in order has a flaw , if the colors clips fall off , and they did lol. Kurt says we will figure it out, so we got all 30 deadeyes blocks together and are off to make up 30 lanyards to tie them all on. Couple of weeks lol. The first Mate garden needs my attention, patotes to dig, tomatoes to make into soup and sauces, canning, got to help if I want to eat. Ha ha This one starting to be fun, looking ahead at making the yards , some neat stuff there I have never done. She going to look grand beside the Duchess of Kingston in one case beside me favorite chair lol. Thanks for helping an old man have so much fun. You guys are the best, thanks. Talk soon Knocklouder 😁 Kurt ⚒️

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
