My grandson is not going to be happy. I told him that he can finish the Penguins, but today I have a niece over to cheer me up. It's working. Nothing like time with little people. . Thankfully, I missed one, the grand son can paint that one. Plus I will get him to paint the Captain and crew. Which I should get back to but the Pegasus is heavy on my mind. It's such a beautiful ship , my peg. Back to it I go , just a fun day in the shipyard. Knocklouder 😁 Kurt ⚒️

Well on the mend , this round of sickness nearly did me in. Very weak and very tired all the time. Very serious lung infection but the cough is almost non existence, thanks my higher power. Most of the shrouds went ok, the middle channel on the port side is the worst, I will have to readjust things later. I see what happens when I put the upper shrouds all the ratlines the shear poles. After thats done they will need adjusting Lots of work to do now, I am so far behind on my work, it will be tuff to get any building done. Now I got to fight off this massive depression that has settled in My other illness , I I can usually keep that in check but the weeks of coughing and been away from my hobby have taken there toll. I usually just give my head a shake, look at a few of my finished ship and start to grin. I have my neice today and we are painting penguins that will help. After that I am going to do all the lower ratlines, ratlines always make me smile. Thanks for popping inand the well wishes. Lots to do, but loving it. Knocklouder ⚒️

Well I am not over the sicknes just yet. The cold and sore throat developed into strepped throat and walking pneumonia. A trip to the hospital was needed. My lungs are not in the greatest of shape in the first place , but I will manage to get over this sickness soon. The doctor told me it a good thing I quit smoking in 1995,but we got some small stuff to take care of, and I should be good to go. I did manage to cut up some lanyards and some seizing thread . The crew is trying to figure what we should do next. Rigging is out for awhile, coughing and shaking are taking there toll. I may get the yards done soon. I had to get @Gabek to make me some cleats for the Pegasus, another thing that was not supplied in the kit. Toying around with the capstan, I may put poles on it ,we will see. With all that's going on, I have so much work that needs to be done before winter comes, so much work to catch up on that I decide to put it in the display case until I feel better and the outside work gets done She going to be a beautiful ship next to the Duchess of Kingston. Take care my friends, hope to be building soon but I think I am in for the long hull of recovery, lots of testing going on so far all negative, which is a good thing they say. Well, got to go rest up, trying to get some outside painting done today, grass needs cutting and the gardens need cultivating, and some machinery repares are needed as well. It all part of life's problems that keep me from building models lol. 😆 🤣 Take care my friends. Knocklouder ⚒️

Planking disaster
Knocklouder replied to sgrez's topic in Building, Framing, Planking and plating a ships hull and deck
I wouldn't use contact cement. After your hull is filled and sanded , I would brush a coat of wood glue, thined 25% - 30% water. Then when planking a good coat of wood glue. This is what I do, other's have there way. It looking good though Bob M. -
You are one amazing fellow, I just showed this to the First Mate and she said, wow is he ever talented. I agree, Bob M.

I use the same stuff, and found it does chip a bit. So what I did was after they were blackened , and dryed, I spray a coat of High Heat Babecue paint, it works for me. Knocklouder

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
