Another pre-bent plank just slips on. This pic shows that plank 1 minute after gluing. It's going to get harder now since clamping planks will confined to rubber bands.

The bottom pre-bent veneer strip has just been glued. I'm amazed that it needs very little clamping. The clamps you see in the background are the port side veneer strip being pre-bent

I'm pre-bending the first exterior veneer plank. Most of the exterior planks were pre-bent, so I'll have to do the same to the veneer.

I very carefully planed the excess planks at the cap rail. Now I have to clean up the gunports and sweep ports. I'll continue to improve their finish as time goes by. I now have to start veneer planking the outside.

Both inner gunwals rough finished all the way up. Now I have to carefully trim the whole thing to prepare for the cap rail and outside planks.

First inside course, both sides. Wow...all that patchwork sub-structure ( as per the plans), sure is ugly. I can't wait to cover it all up. Cutting out the tiny sweep ports was tricky since they and the gunports get partially covered during planking.

After a tremendous amount of making filler strips and blocks.... and sanding and sanding and sanding to get the gunwals narrowed and smooth....I finally glued on the first piece of inside planking. Now I have a very long road ahead of inside planking, outside veneer planking and deck planking. But this is the stuff of making the model look great when finished.

Inner transom cleaned up a bit. Now I'm cleaning up the inside gunwals so I can plank them. They are composed of dozens of small pieces and parts, so getting them smooth is a chore.

Another inside stern plank. This one partially covers gunports which I will trim when glue dries. Rudder hole has been stained

I'm pre-bending the stern trim to be installed later. I'm still preparing the inner gunwales to be planked.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
