  2. Hi Sjors, Looking forward to seeing some completed yards my friend mobbsie
  3. A few more pics Stern counter being planked. Stern Fascia's dry fitted So there we are, right up to date, fitting the quarter galleries is going to be fun but before I do them I have to glaze and paint the area inside them which will be white bulkheads with a black & white checker board deck, no furniture. mobbsie
  4. Hi Guys, Thanks for the good wishes gents, gratefully recieved. There is some real talent out there, not only is there some superb ship builders but also students of language. This site impresses me more and more. I got back home on Sunday and started back on the Aggie on Monday, completed all the guns and carriages, the gun tackle for the 18lb'ers, Focastle planking glued on and rubbed down to bulkhead height and scrap blocks glued inside the main gundeck gunports to support the gunport linings when fitted. I'm currently working on the Quarter Galleries and having some fun, just trying to get the Stern fascia to stay in place when dry fitted, at the mo it's like a bl--dy catapult and pings off as soon as I get anywhere near it. Next job after the Galleries will be the forward bulkhead fascia and the roundhouses, the doors will be removed and new scratch doors fitted. I have a few pics, hope you like. mobbsie Full set of dummy guns = 26 x 24 lb'ers in my colour scheme In the box are two full sets of 26 x 18 lb'ers and 12 x 9 lb'ers again all in my colour scheme. 24 Gun tackle blocks and hooks for the gun carriages 24 Gun tackle blocks and hooks for the bulwarks Focastle planking done More to follow
  5. Love that one, and you are so right Popeye, cant wait for that to happen. mobbsie
  6. Absolutely fantastic Popeye, both boats look great, I can almost feel your satisfaction from here. Very very well done mate. mobbsie
  7. Hi Anja, I'm really pleased for you, I hope the new contract meets your approval and that you settle seamlessly with the new company. Speak to you later. mobbsie
  8. Hi Sjors, I go away for a few days and you decide to go berserk with your build, you've certainly got a good bit done. It's going to get very interesting from here. KEEP THOSE PICS COMING mobbsie
  9. Hi Gents, YI-HAAA, we have moderator permission to stay off topic, got nuthin to say now darn it !!!!!!!!!! Oh sod it have a drink John, thanks for the answer to my question mate, that really is most helpfull and will be used I think. Your dad was a better mathmatician than me, at least he could count to three er two errrrrrr three I think. The Brits had the old Brown Bess, good in it's day but a piece of junk really. Could'nt punch a hole in a pumpkin at 60 yards, how could they expect to win any war with stuff like that, it was however quicker to load than the Kentucky, if nothing else we Brits could load a rifle or cannon quicker than most, in many cases thats what made the difference, rate of fire and weight of shot. If the states were still under Brit control we would have mucked it up just as we are here, having said that your leaders are doing a pretty good job of that, or so I hear. Dont get me wrong, I'm not jumping on the political bandwagon here, at 01:05 this is where my mind is taking me. I'm going to bed now guys, I have to get up at 05:30 and hit the road at 06:15, be good. mobbsie
  10. Hi Channel, Just found your log, mind if I tag along for the ride. She's looking pretty impressive, very well done. mobbsie
  11. Hi Grant, According to George Biddlecombe's book " THE ART OF RIGGING" a Spar is a small tree, a Yard is " Long cylindrical pieces of Fir Timber, hung to the masts of ships to expand the the sails to the wind. I can only guise that during times when repairs were being made away from any port and small tree's were used as replacement yards. The working party may have been told to go ashore and get some Spar's. This may be a total figment of my imagination and is probably wrong but you never know, seems logical to my mind.  mobbsie
  12. Hi Popeye, Birthday wishes to Phyl from Harwich my friend, compared to some of us she's still a baby. How can two boats be the same and yet look so different, your skill and imagination do you proud Popeye, the sad day of completion draws ever closer. With 3 builds complete your going to have a lot of time on your hands, what you got planned next ? mobbsie
  13. Hi Guys, Channel, thats one very nice looking piece you have there, I should imagine that with the barrel that long the kick must be tremendous. I would love the experience of fireing one. I can remember most of the programes you have mentioned gents but as a kid my fav was " The last of the Mohekans" not sure but I think it may have included Davy Crocket. I was thinking about Jed Clampit when I made ref to hillbillies, I fell in love with Elly May, she was a real cracker, but then I was only about 13 or 14. Keith you are so right in that we learn so much by discussion and watching, I learned a lot from my father in law about DIY which has held me in good stead, I also learned not to follow his example with electrics ( he nearly blew me up ), another lessen learned. Back to my build, my timber has arrived so I will be able to make a start on the transom and then the stern galleries, I have to finish the just jobs I started whilst waiting so thats the rest of the guns, about 24 of them, then the train tackle, there are 48 of those. I have just recieved the 2mm blocks and hooks I ordered so it's all systems go. I'm away over the weekend so wont be back untill Monday then I can make a start finishing those jobs, hopefully I'll start on the planking again towards the end of the week. I have to ask your help guys, I'm thinking of scale planks for my second planking and dont have a clue how the get the right length, the full plank length is 76cm with an LOA of 130cm, the width of the planks supplied is 5mm, if anybody can help I would be most appreciative, math is not my subject and never has been, in fact my first school report for maths was " Tony is unutterably lazy " not a report I'm proud of. OK thats me, if anybody speaks to Frank please send him my regards. Be Good mobbsie
  14. Good work Augie, those yards will do the job nicely. Like you I only have dowel so will be doing the same, hope I can get mine half as good as yours. mobbsie
  15. Hi Keith, Just trying to stir some blood, I read somewhere that the Kentucky rifle was the weapon of choice with the woodsmen and also the mountain men, long barrel and very accurate, hated by the any opposing side whether it be brit or yankee. Sort of compliment really. mobbsie
  16. Hi Mort, If you need to know more about the flintlocks I'm sure there are a few hillbillys out there who still use the old Kentucky. mobbsie
  17. Hi Frank, Good luck my friend for Wednesday, hope all goes well for you and I wish you a speedy recovery and a quick return. Thats one hell of a weapon you have there mate, there's a few sabre rattlers out there who need to be very carefull now. :D mobbsie
  18. If may be so bold as to answer that Patric, it's quite simple really. The French and Spanish ships capitulated to the British and Sjors is hiring them. mobbsie
  19. Hi Mort, Just for you mate, a pic of the flintlocks as they come with the kit. If I can be of any further help dont hesitate to ask. mobbsie As you can see they are tiny, also they have the striker
  20. Hi Sjors, If I didnt know any better I'd say you were giving us the bird. Very well done mate, I know that bit was worrying you but you done good. Keep it up and sorry to hear your back at work. mobbsie
  21. Hi Guys, Wow, I did'nt expect that responce, thank you all so very much. Mort, the kit came with the flintlocks supplied, I would love to have the ability and skill to turn stuff out like that, one problem with them is that they are easily knocked off. Pierre, you are absolutely right, the bigger wheels should have gone on the front and thank you for pointing that out, fortunatly I had'nt glued them on so they were easily changed over. Jim, someone told me that "he who cannot be named" was lurking in the food store looking for lobsters so I thought I'd give him a scare, trouble is he dont scare easy. Jim Lad, can you contact the police and let know I have an intruder in my food store, Popeye worked hard for them lobsters. Aldo, "he who cannot be named" is a fickle ally and cannot be trusted, he can turn at any time. Voldamart, I'm building as fast as I can, be patient. Carl, I do like a bit of sparkle. Ben, Voldamart only has one ship with sails so Augie is quite safe at the moment, both are aggro minded devils and prone to a bit of sabre rattling, so long as thats all it is. Thats it for now gents, sorry no update pics and thanks again for the very kind words. mobbsie
  22. Hi Anja, The second interview is gonna be a breeze, I dont need to wish you good luck because you dont need it, your gonna knock em dead. I'm sure we will see progress on the HM soon, perhaps when your not so busy. Be good mobbsie
  23. Hi Aldo, With Valdamart and you I can see a profit in putting you both on stage, nice April fools. Peggy is looking very good my friend and it's great to see some progress, thank you. mobbsie
  24. Hi Frank, This ship just gets better and better, your doing a fantasic job on her my friend. Those sails are something else but we have grown to expect that standard from you now. You have a mighty tough job of topping that with your next build, one to challenge Voldamar perhaps ? mobbsie
