  1. Hello, and a warm welcome to the forum from 'Down Under'. John
  2. Thanks, Keith. I'm still tossing up between Privet (which is what the framing is) or Cherry Ballart - a dark coloured Australian native timber. My current thinking is that the Cherry Ballart will be too dark. I might save that for highlighting details. John
  3. Another small update. Some of my time at the museum lately has been taken up with things other than modelling, but I've been continuing to work slowly on the internal cleaning up of the hull. In the photo below you can see that the starboard side has had a lot of work done on it, but the port side is still awaiting attention. She'll get there eventually! John
  4. Hello Spike, and a warm welcome to the forum from 'Down Under'. John
  5. Hello, and a warm welcome to MSW from 'Down Under'. John
  6. Very nice progress, Dan. I find those small chains criss-crossing the forecastle puzzling. They certainly look too small for anchor cables on a ship of that size, but what is their exact use? Do you know? John
  7. Hello Cleat, and a warm welcome to MSW from 'Down Under'. John

  9. Just catching up, Frank. A very nice job of soldering on those dredges. John
  10. All looking up to your usual standard, Mark! John
  11. That looks good, Kevin. I always do the margins first on the basis that each plank can be fitted as you go. The down side of doing that is that if you slip and ruin the margin, then you've got a real problem on your hands - thankfully it hasn't happened yet. John
  12. She really looks the ants pants on that stand Mark. Unfortunately I won't be able to come on Wednesday week, but thanks for the open invitation. John
  13. Yep. Your second attempt piece is exactly the way the planks fit into the margin. John
  14. Don't see what your problem is, mate. We're only a day away from you by A380. John
  15. Kevin, Below is a photo of my partially completed model of the 'Francis Pritt'. You can see how the deck planking is "nibbled" into the margin plank. the square ends of the "nibbled" planks are usually 1/3 the plank width. John
  16. Hello Joel, and a warm welcome to the forum from down in Australia. John
