  1. Got both your posts Sjors. Thanks! I have to say, she is a real beauty and you deserve to be proud of her. I would never even attempt sails. Yours look great. Thanks for re-posting. This was done before my time on MSW 1.0 Just one question ------ is that YOU painted on the transom?????
  2. Good luck on that bow modification, Anja. I'm sure, no matter what you decide, it will be stellar!
  3. Looks very nice, Sjors. I guess we would call her a 'Privateer', a sort of government sanctioned pirate. What is the scale on her? And thanks for reposting ...... I'll be following.
  4. Nice cutting of the curves on the deck beams. In my yard, brute force and superstition would have been used to bend them into submisssion . I'm not going to ask if the stove works. The great thing about this log is that, after almost 2 years on MSW, I'm beginning to see how things should be done. That's not to say I could actually DO them.
  5. Nice deck furnishings, Sjors. Patrick should be happy with the photos!
  6. I had to sleep on it to figure out the checkered floor. I finally 'got it'. That one photo peering through the quarter gallery and seeing that floor is .......priceless! I've only actually seen that once on a ship and it was HMS Victory when I walked her decks in '79. Glad my Syren doesn't need that. I'd be stuck going to Home Depot and trying to find 1:64 vinyl tiles REALLY well done and presented.
  7. Just found this log and it saddens me that I did not become aware of it until late in the game. You've done a fine job on this little gem and, at the same time, provided a brilliant narrative. I shall look forward to your projects in future.
  8. Thank you for stopping by, B.E. It would also appear that we now have Popeye's of differing ethnic backgrounds and eras on board! Where else but MSW????? Everyone stay the course!
  9. I have never seen anything like your caulking method before. Talk about going over to the 'dark side' ! But the finished result is stunning. It takes a brave man to post that low-level, full length deck shot. Very precise work.
  10. Hey Popeye------congrats on your promotion. Now neither of us need to salute Sjors! Never knew Popeye had a father
  11. See, I'm not alone. The bus is almost as popular as .......Sjors !!!!!!!
  12. That ebony/holly strip idea is really nice. If you keep this up I'm going back to an Erector Set.
  13. Hey Richard----- glad to have you back home!!!!!! The Syren fleet is coming back to strength!! Take your time catching up. You've got a great build going. I went with the 1/16" dowel and haven't managed to knock it off yet....but I've yet to attach the rigging. Between pinning it with the wire and the added support where it hits the headrail I think it will be ok. The next size up is 3/32 and that's pretty hefty, but it could work. There's an awful lot of 'stuff' running through that area when you get down the line.
  14. Hey, you've got 30 years more then I have to build them all . Here's a photo of a 1:48 USS North Carolina, also a 74, to inspire you.
