Hello I am looking to purchase a thickness Sander, I live in California. I am spoiled I love the Byrnes Machines.
Any suggestions? Thank you, Nick
Where in California?
I'm in Roseville, and I have a Byrnes thickness sander that I doubt I will use in the future.
PM me if you wish to pursue it

I just "found" this build and it is one beautiful model. Love all the detail, especially the interior with the maps and mags and all.
Well Done.

Now the question:
Will increasing the drum circumference from 9.4" to 12.5" and increasing the RPM of the drum from 1100 RPM to 1700 RPM - thus increasing the area of sanding medium per unit time cause a problem?
This would increases the surface speed from about 2,700 to about 5560 Ft/minute; will heat be a problem?

Actually the only original part is her red bottom, all else is obviously new timber.
Reminds me of the tale I heard once:
"George Washington's hatchet that he used on the legendary Cherry tree. All original except that the head was replaced once, and the handle 3 times."

Sounds like you're a heavy coffee drinker. I've broken a lot of mugs over the years, but I've yet to wear one out!
Maybe his coffee eats thru the bottom of the mug.....

They sure are pretty little tools.
Which size did you get, and how did you decide?

My statement was a jest. No doubt you've reduced your carbon footprint but unfortunately being totally carbon free is impossible, IMHO. Unless you're running butt naked through the woods eating raw whatever we all have a carbon footprint, some way more than yourself.
And you also have to be sure not to "Pass Wind" (Methane), and hold your breath so you don't exhale any CO2

We did that for our boys too. The older one asked if he had Wicky Gums when he was a baby after seeing us doing this for his younger brother.
I used Gin with my daughters when they were teething.

I think the concentration of acetic acid in Micro Set is too dilute to be of any significant use other than for decals. Most household vinegar is about 5% acetic acid by volume, Micro Set might be somewhere around 2 or 3 percent (I’m no chemist, just my own personal guesstimate).
Andy
I don't know anything about this application, but if what you want is higher concentrations of acetic acid, try an old time photography supplier. In the wet lab darkroom days, "Stop Bath" was approx. 2% acetic acid, but the stores stocked 28% acetic acid, and also "Glacial" acetic acid, which was straight anhydrous acetic acid. You can then dilute it to desired strength for your application.

My one concern about using dowels is lining up the dowel in part A with the hole in part B. The alignment on this piece will need to be very precise. Any suggestions on a technique for doing that would be appreciated.
Just a thought from someone who's never tried it, but could you use steel pins (cut off brads), drill the holes a tad oversized, and use epoxy to fill the gaps and give you some wiggle time to align the pieces before it sets up?

For those outside the United States, Harriet Lane was also the slang name for tinned preserved meat; named after an unfortunate young woman who was murdered by her lover in London in 1874 and whose body was later dismembered in attempt to dispose of it!

Sounds like this product would have been a strong candidate for the Alferd Griner Packer award for culinary excellence.

This one doesn't have a curved barrel. It's a Glock pistol mounted in the front section over the light and camera, with an extended trigger arrangement, and the modest (9mm?) recoil is to the side, in line with the pistol barrel.
Still, not exactly a target gun.

I bought one for my son in the early 90s. They had made it so safe (most of the chemicals were bottled as pads "Soaked" in the chemicals, rather than liquids) that we could not get any of the experiments to work!
Yes, I had the same experience in the 90's but it was with my Grandson.
When we were kids, the sets had lots of "real" chemicals and you could do neat stuff with them. My favorite was flash powder in a large gelatin Capsule you could buy by the box full at the local pharmacy and fill yourself. They were compounding pharmacists in those days, not just pill peddlers, so they had lots of chemicals, too. I packed these in my backpack for Boy Scout camping trips, to toss in the campfire. Stopped doing that after our ***'t Scout Leader demo'd his rugged Backwoodsman skills by bending down over the fire to light his cigarette on a burning log - at just the wrong moment.
Good Times, they were.

probably, they all can send photos to this forum as long as it is .jpeg format
I do not know Android phones but photos format are probably not .jpeg
by example Iphone are .heic which needs to be converted to .jpeg before sending it
I prefer jpeg rather than heic for all my iPhone photos for compatibility when downloading or sending them.
To do this on an iPhone or iPad, go to Settings - Camera - Formats and select "Most Compatable"
Maybe not as good, technically, as heic but meets my needs with lower hassle factor.

Aha. I see that what I thought was a wrap is a shadow. It's clear to me now looking more closely at this and your other photos.
The Nonsuch is an interesting design that I never sailed. My experience is limited to sloop rigged boats in the 30 - 40 foot range, in and around SF Bay.
I'm enjoying following your build, and imagine if I were aboard and sailing her. Brings back fond memories of when I was younger and able to get out on the water. Good times.

Carbon Tetrachloride itself is non-flammable, and at one time was used in small fire extinguishers.
In a brief search, I couldn't find anything on a 50-50 mix with gasoline, but the authors of the above piece claim it won't burn.
It will, however, damage your liver and kidneys, and other nasty health issues, and if exposed to high enough temps, decompose and release phosgene and hydrogen chloride gasses.
Carbon tet used to be used as a dry cleaning fluid, and other uses, but I think that it's been effectively banned in the US for consumer products.

Good for her.
I hope her classmates who were poorer financial planners at least got degrees that prepared them with marketable skills.

Yes it is, and your planking looks really good - tight fits and symmetrical.
