  1. Hi Keith, I personally agree with this Kind of openness. It is important to know if there are some strange things about the kit - so I can decide clearly if I want to take this challenge or better not. Of course I would like to build kits like this as the amount of scratch (up to 50 percentr as it was mentioned before) and it is good to know about it. How dissapointing would it be to purchase a kit and find out, that one cannot walk with the difficulties. For me ist good to know also the "unsatisfying" or "bad" sides as I badly want to manage a Euro Model kit someday. Ist always the thing to Balance between "What do I get" and "What do I want". And therefore every Information is good. Cheerio Max
  2. Hi thx so much for your kind words. I am not sure if I can dare to start a project like San Felipe or (also s dream) the Sovereign. But both ships are on my personal wishlist. And the day will come Next project will be Derfflinger (if I can purchase the kit - seems to be sold out for the moment) oder Caldercrafts Endeavour. But I admit - these really big model like SF oder SOS excite me very much. Only the sorrowful looking of my wife (for the missing space in our house) make me hesitate Perhaps we have to do some work on the house before Cheerio Max
  3. Hi my friend what a GREAT job you did on the bow. Chapeau The brass strip-system is used at the Royal Caroline too... I HATED to bend the strips for the bow, but of course and at least - everything found its place and - indeed - it was not as difficult I thought. But the metal ist quite stiff... wish they would use tin for the strips. Would be much easier and more accurate to handle. But - not challenge, no fun .D Cheerio Max
  4. Hi Matti I didn't realise that this Piece of artwork is your FIRST build. O M G - what a wonderful start to this modelling. If I knew that before ... I confess all what I said before and add an "+++" - triple A Cheerio Max
  5. Hi my friends, just a few pics as update. Finished the boat-holder so far, but I did not glue it yet. I Need free space to work on the deck for the cannons. Not until that I will fix the gang-way. Actually the stand for the boat-holder should be painted in red - but I decided not to paint it. I like the natural Wood-look more. @schnu you are right - the time would have been here to use steer-wheels. Perhaps they used a tiller as it is "only" a yacht ? Cheerio Max
  6. Hey Joe, you are doing a great job - I like what I see. I have never done a Caldercraft kit before, but I want to build the famous Endeavour by this company. It looks like the quality of the materials and the instructions is very good. Go on and please us with your craftsmanship. Cheerio Max
  7. Oh ja... Chris, the pics are great, this guy semms to do a very good job on the WVH, the painting of the figures is great and his working room is perfect... but what the hell does this letters mean?? wish my russioan was better :D Thats the good side of the hobby: a pic says more than thousands words... Thx Max
  8. Hi Andy, what a impressing ship and a very nice pic... Seems you do not have dogs around? I have four - and so I have to use a dust cover to protect my models. I use some colorless acrylic covers that are made in the correct dimensions. Fort my Half Moon, a quite small model, I have a cover with the dimensons of 60/60/23 cm and it was about 120 Euros... Cheerio Max
  9. Hi Drag, funny little ship - but a good scale. 1:35 makes it possible to take it on a set of diorama as this scale is very popular. You can build ab a small harbor scene with vehhicle, people and a lot of stuff. Could be a very nice littel challenge in between BTW was to Kamloops last year (with the Rocky Mountaineer) Had a few extreme good tasting beers in a craftsman brewery... Very nice place there and the landscape is amazing Best wishes Max
  10. Hi Matti dont want to repeat all that was said before - but it is really true: Your Vasa is great. And the ratline will come one after another until your forget the time passing by... I found it very relaxing although you always have to be cautious not to run out of the line... I see you build the masts not at one whole part but step by step. I will try this method with my Royal Caroline whenever I reach this part. Keep on knoting Best regards Max
  11. Hi Chris, I am deeply impressed. I never thought that a single planking can look so perfect. But indeed - it does. You are talking about additional research... do you stoll knoiw what sources you used? Are they to find in www? The WVH is defintetly on my wishlist and I will do her someday. So I am very interested in every hint, tip and trick to get a good result. Thx Cheerio Max
  12. Hi Andy the more you write and Show the more grows my interest Wi´sh you good Patience and a view full of knowledge, when you read the plans Cheerio Max
  13. Hi all... Just a view pics from today. I did the boat holder resp gang-board. On the plans it Looks quite confused, but it really works and the result is great - as I think. Thats all for the Moment Cheerio Max
  14. Hi all thank you so much for your kind comments and words... Yes, I admit - I enjoy the build very much. Its fun, its a challenge sometimes, gives the motivation to start a little little bashing, to improve the original results and bring them into a direction I like more...At the Moment I do some deck furniture, prepare the chain plates and look for the correct cannon-rigging. The kit and the plans do not intend to rig the cannons. But I think they look wrong without the ropes. blocks and hooks. I study Wolfram zu Mondfeld (is he known in the english-speaking world too?) and found a lot of good advice - of course - in our forum. @ David thumbs up - its funny to do the RC @ John thx so much @ Edwin Thx too - and I attached a pic that Shows the Color. It is just Acrylic mat Color, the name is cobalt blue. It is waterbased - and I think you can get it in every do-it-yourself-shop CU all Cheerio Max
  15. Hi Denis, got one more question: As I understood the decks of the SOS are ready to build in - I mean the decks have not to be planked. Although the look is very accurate und smooth - what is your opinion about this way of building? Is it a "+" or a "-" for you? I see there is a trend to prefabricate more and more parts. This is a this-and-that-way... I am not sure what I should think about... hmmm Thx Max
  16. Hi David hope I can post more pics asap. Tehre is just one problem (you sure know about it): There aere so much breaks between the building times. They call it work or office - so much boring... prevents me to do the things I would like to do :D Thx for your words - Cheerio Max
  17. Hi I read in the description of the kit I found on www that the hull is only single planked. It seems you do a second planking. Can you help me? Is this right - and is this recommended in the instructions or was it your idea to do a second planking? I am a fan of the Astrolabe and it is a part of my immense wishlist But I am not sure if I want to have just one layer of planks... you have almost no chance to correct some mistakes. Thx and Cheerio Max
  18. Wow... the lights are great. They give the model a so realistic touch Best wishes Max
  19. @adam Indeed the Royal Caroline is a beauty. I am glad I decides to build her although it is just my second model-ship. I bought the kit for 320 euros by a german internet-trader. Cheerio Max
  20. Hi Andy, the castings look good. I am very excited to see how they fit on the model. And I am much more excited to see how the single planking goed. As mentioned I can hardly imagine that this gives a really good result. But we'll see BTW your SOS is GREAT. I think this hobby has so much turn-ons as almost no other an (apart from my dogs ) Best wishes Max
  21. I LOVE the work you do on the anchors - and it is yet the stock we see... What else will you do with the anchor itself I think I will improve the anchors with my Royal Caroline too... They look so "normal" when they come out of the box. Thx for the inspiration. Cheerio Max
  22. Hi Andy infact the single planking is something that really scares me... my first plankings are - as the most are - quite good but never meant to be shown as a result of good craftsmanship. So I am thinking about a very thin second planking for a build like this. As I have never done a single planking model before I do not know if this could work. But it can be a way of coming along with this. My first build was Corel (Half Moon). The instructions seem to be very less indeed. But as you said: If everyone could do it - what would be the Special challenge? :D Best wishes Max
