  1. Thank you David, Its been challanging and fun to build, shes right on the numbers so thats pleasing Best Regards, Pete
  2. Nice work tom, It looks like I missed your comparison entry. You did a Aweome job on this build. Hats off , Fantastic work . So what are you going to build next ? Best Regards, Pete
  3. Hi Omega1234, your build is comming together nicely. There is just somthing about those Herreshoff boats Best Regards, Pete
  4. Hi Matti, Nice work on the masting, it looks fantastic . I realy like the photo looking at the bow. ( nice shot ) Best Regards, Pete
  5. Today I started by lowering the camber on the rear cockpit bulkhead , I then realized that the Transom knee needed to be cut down to allow for the rear deck . On the forward cockpit bulkhead , I cut out the frame brace to match the deck camber of the birch ply . I then installed the bulkheads and layed out the cockpit seats ( another one of those trickier than I thought situations ) I then cut out 4 seat braces for aft of the cockpit and 2 larger ones for the bow. This is because the deck angle change's sharpley for the cockpit coaming . I then turned my attention to the Keel . I filled in the bottom of the keel with wood ( this normaly would be the Lead part of the keel ) I then faired it in with the rest of the Boat. Here are the results
  6. Thank you Bob I appreciate it , She is coming out right on the numbers, I am very pleased Best Regards, Pete
  7. Very nice work Nils , I think The swivelguns look great . I like how you have put this build together Best Regards, Pete
  8. I would like to Thank you all, For your intrest and the likes , its inspiring Hi Michael, I looked at Tonis build ( for the louvers ) I am going to try that out . it looks fairly simple . I think your right, that kind of system might work. I to this day would still love to have a full sized one, They are so nice to sail, ( I sailed a 12 1/2 a few times, I did not want it to end ) and they are very easy on the eye's Hi Richard, Thank you, she is comming together nicely, I am also building the original 12 1/2 ( Cap't Nates ) as a proto-type the link is in my signature. Hi Nils, Thank you for the kind words, I like the Herreshoff Designs ( deffinatly a dreamboat ) They are Amazing boats to sail as well Best Regards, Pete I just had to add this photo
  9. Next I cut out a piece of 1/32" birch plywood to emclose the forward section of the cockpit. ( it has not been glued in so that I can still add details ) ) I cut for the deck camber and will add filler piece betwwen the ply and the mast step brace. ( this should make the mast section very solid ) I then cut out the rear cockpit bulkhead with the deck camber cut in as well ( it has not been glued ) Next will be to get the rear deck section framed in, and to frame in for the bench seats. Here are the results
  10. Today, I started on the Mast step ( wich was more complicated than I had first thought ) Fortunatly I had the Keel height correct ( per the plans ) I started by making a 6" length of mast ( at the correct specs ) Then I cut out some 1/32" Birch ply strips, that would fit between the stations and run from top to bottom of the Keel. ( only for the mast step station ) I then cut out 3/32" material, and cut those pieces to run to the top of the frame. I then put the mast section ( that I had made )and cut out the piece to fit in the slot as per the plans. I then made the upper brace, installed the 1" ( scale ) block to the top of the frame ( toward the bow ) This will give me the correct mast angle. I then installed the side pieces and the supports that run down the frame. I added the triangles for more support, they are not on the plans . ( I just felt they should be there to beef up that section ) The center piece of the mast step has not been glued in, I will wait at this point till I make the mast ( hopfully Sitka Spruce ) this will allow me some wiggle room when it comes time to fit the mast . Here are the results
  11. Hi Toni, Amazing build you have going on here . Fantastic work Best Regards, Pete
  12. Next I will be concentrating on the cockpit, the Mast step and supports . The plans show the benches and forward bulkhead as being open. I will make them closed as well as adding the door. Does anyone know of a trick to make the louvers ? here are some pics of what I am going for
  13. Amazingl work Augie, The overall pic of your build is a beautiful shot. ( my Favorite ) She sure is comming together nicely Best Regards, Pete
  14. Today, I finished trimming up the frames that I had cut then fit them in the keel. I did end up cutting 6" (Scale ) off the seat top and adding 4" ( Scale ) it to the notch for where the transom sits.other than that the Calculations seem to be good and on track to having the 12 1/2. I then dry fit all the frames in the Keel ( and for illustration purposes, I am using the Rudder in the jig to hold up the transom ) Next will be to figure out and lay out the bench seats in the Cockpit. then cut them out as well as cutting in for the Ribbands. Here are the results, ( one shot has Her next to Her big sister )
  15. Thank you Omega1234, the Herreshoff 12 1/2 is a beautiful boat that I have always wanted ( since I was a kid ) the Buzzards Bay 14 ftr. is as nice as well , But there is just somthing about the Original that just grabs you. My goal is to try and capture that essence. and my calculations seem to be working out. Best Regards, Pete
  16. Looks good Max, it looks like you are making alot of progress , very nice work Best Regards, Pete
  17. It looks realy good , and a great Idea to make it work and still be asthetically pleasing to the eye Best Regards, Pete
  18. Beautiful work Nils, I like the tiller socket . The detail work is fantastic, great job Best Regards, Pete
  19. You Know it, Cape Cod Shipbuilding is getting $ 45,000.00 for a Herreshoff 12 1/2 Best Regards, Pete
  20. I first started by laying out the keel on 1/8" X 4" X 12" basswood in the same fashion that I lofted the drawing ( this way I could double check my Math ) I then laid out the Stern Post and Cockpit Floor wich is 1' - 0 " ( scale ) lower than the Buzzards Bay 14 ftr. This was one of the things that I wanted to do differently while building the Buzzards Bay 14 ftr. The other thing, was that I made sure that I figured in the notch on the Stern Post for the Transom . Then I cut it out, squared it up and made a building Jig . I then layed out the Frames and then cut them out. These are the same size Frames as the Buzzards Bay 14 ftr .( I have not changed the offset table just the frame spacing ) Here are the results
  21. Thank you David , I appreciate it Thank you Bob, she is a sweet ride , the battens you are refering to are actually bent ribs . I am very happy with this boat , next I will use a west sytem epoxy to seal it all up. I did start a version of Cap't Nates 12 1/2 the link to the build log is in my signature Best Regards, Pete
  22. This Morning I awoke 3 hours earlier than normal for me. ( this is either a Good thing or not ) I choose for it to be a good thing. I decided to put my theory to the test by build a Proto-type Herreshoff 12 1/2 , at 3/4" = 1' - 0 "using the L. Francis Herreshoff Buzzards Bay 14 ftr as a base line, in wich He had lengthend his Fathers version of the 12 1/2 with the same beam, I decided to shorten the frame spacing from 18" to 16" thus giving me a 12' - 6" waterline .(reversing what L. Francis had done ) and in theory giving me the original 12 1/2 . I am using the Herreshoff Buzzards Bay 14 ftr plans as well as photos and other information that I have gathered as my reference's. Here are some pic's of what I am going for. I feel pretty good about this build
  23. Thank you David, The planking actually went pretty smooth, just where the bildge turns was it a little tricky. I was happy with the outcome Best Regards, Pete
