  1. It's good you're stubborn, Keith. Too many of us would probably have given up and taken up basket weaving. Keep going, you'll get it solved.
  2. Welcome to MSW, rudybob. When you have the model in hand, open a log as it's the best way to get help and meet other builders. As for questions.. ask away as there's such thing as a dumb question. We do have a lot of info here and if you need help finding out something, try the search feature (upper left of every page).
  3. I would suspect you're right about the paints as people tend to go with what they know. And the color would probably work also.
  4. Evil, Keith, but funny. You had me looking again also.
  5. Keith, are there any jewelers or even watch repair shops near you? Might be worth talking to them. By jewelers I'm speaking of the big chain types but more the old "mom and pop" shops that actually make jewelry.
  6. I think the style of the figures and proportions go back to the lead figures for both war gaming and AD&D. Probably to add some thickness to them to keep them from being broken. My dad had a friend who did a lot of those figures back in the 50's-60's for dioramas and they were all "stocky".looking.
  7. Try looking at jewelry tools. I think I've seen some that small while looking for a specific size in the past though my needs weren't that small.
  8. Welcome to MSW, Rob. Enjoy the voyage of MSW and model ship building.
  9. The Germans may well have considered the two tank transport. However, I think matching the power output of the two and speed may have been an insurmountable problem given the tech of the day. Things are looking good on the bench and I'm happy to see you back and at it again.
  10. PM James. He can fix it. He'll need your IP addy which is in the error message.
  11. Looking very much at home that bottle, Glen. Very nicely done and I'm glad you got it in without breaking anything.
  12. Welcome to MSW, Dan. When you're ready, by all means open a build log. It's the best way to get help and also to meet other modelers.
  13. It would only work if the if helmsman kept track of how many times he turned the wheel and didn't spin it. To be honest, I'm not sure that except in movies the wheel was ever spun madly.
  14. Many times, as I understand it, the Brits left as much of the French carvings, etc. as possible. The reason was stealth as a French looking ship could get in closer to the French ports for reconnaissance purposes. Also cost would be an issue.
  15. Beautiful work. Welcome back, it's great to hear from you.
  16. That's great on the pre-carved out keel slots. I've worked on mine and so far, so good. But I'll keep this in mind just case something breaks.
  17. Eric raises a good question, Tom. If this is scratch, let me or another moderator know and we'll move it to the scratch area.
  18. Beautiful work, Eric. The veneer to match looks perfect.
  19. Patiently waiting for the moment of truth. Champaign on ice.
  20. Randy, go up to the top of the page (any page) and hover over the "More" link. A menu will pop up. Down about half way is topic "Planking Techniques". Click on it. There you find several planking tutorials. Have a look and see if they help.
  21. Well done, Egilman. They look about as perfect as one can do. A couple of points to talk about... On deployment, true, no one worried about markings of any sort. Stateside, I was in a pilot training unit and those birds were kept clean and all markings freshened as needed. Stateside, we did have some red and white markings on the underside of the rotar blades near the rotor head. Again, we were a training unit and had a few guys up top during "live" maintenance (rotor spinning for blade tracking) and who stood up. Nothing more serious than some abrasions on the head and bruises when they hit the ground. It could have been a lot worse. But Korea was different back then. Choppers were still in their infancy and the learning curve had just started.
  22. If that happens get a pic and just tell everyone that they took off on a mission.
  23. Welcome to MSW, Captn. If the models are finished, put them in the Gallery. If being worked on, feel free to open a log. You've done some beautiful models and nicely weathered.
