Maybe not since ships are referred to in female gender. Do I need to stand in the naughty corner?

Many of us are, myself included. Note the sizes of the blocks and order some extras. There's plenty of places that sell blocks. Have a look at our advertisers on the front page. -
Was Howard I. Chapelle Controversial
mtaylor replied to SaltyNinja's topic in Nautical/Naval History
We do tend to wander a bit in discussions. My apologies for continuing the "off topic" part but it seemed to fit the topic. Chapelle was right on many things. I have his books that have been well thumbed. His not following conventional wisdom has been a blessing. -

Contact Dominoff via his website and see if he can help with the parts. He's also a member here. -
Was Howard I. Chapelle Controversial

This segues into the model world a lot. Too many manufactures of kits grab a concept (no matter how wrong it is) and make a product. That product then becomes what many buyers will believe was the real thing. The Constellation is just one of many... such as the kits that have been around for decades of the Vasa and never updated nor barely resemble the ship. There's plenty more but the list would be very long. -
I'm pulling up a chair to watch also, Chris. Amazing how the tech keeps improving models.

The "fix" looks good from here, Eric. If you hadn't told us, I don't think anyone would have known. I do understand your confusion and hope this gets fixed for future builders.

Ducati 1299 by Moonbug - Pocher - 1/4 Scale
mtaylor replied to Moonbug's topic in Completed non-ship models
When l lived in St. Louis back in the 70's and early 80's, I used to the same thing... wander around downtown and "visit" the old abandoned buildings. The old train station was wonderful even after they decided to sink money into it and renovate it. It sad to see the decay and abandonment. There is a sense of what was and the people who used to work and live there. -

A model of a barn find in situ. Amazing work to turn a beautiful model into this. -
I'm sorry to hear of the health problems, Guy. I believe you'll get back to where you were with your attitude. My ex- is an amputee and ran a support group for awhile. If their experience is any measure, you seem to be on your way with the therapy. If you can find one nearby, a support group will help as there's a wide variety of experience and knowledge to tap into.

Rob, Is it possible that you saw it in a build log? Unless someone remembers, it'll be tough to find.

Good news about feeling better. Let's just hope it was bit a winter cold. The proposed fix sounds like the easiest way, Eric. About how much is being cut off?

Hi Dan, welcome to MSW. Keith has a good question. If you've never built a wooden model ship (I'm assuming it's wood), I'd suggest you read this topic first as it has great advice and excellent ideas on how to start this hobby.

Looking for a good "starter" pin vise set
mtaylor replied to Capella's topic in Modeling tools and Workshop Equipment
I have a couple of the "no name" types I bought a couple of decades ago. Haven't worn them out yet. But then, for drilling I'm more likely to use the mill or just use small WeCheer electric (Model WE=242) which pretty much does what I want. As a disclaimer.. I do have a pile of wonderdul "must have" tools that I've taken out of the box and looked at or even used once. So there is that to consider... how often will you use it? -
Welcome to MSW, Reece. It's great you have started a build log. Lots of friendly and helpful folks here at MSW.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
