  1. Did CH-34's and CH53's in the USMC. Avionics, test flight pay as co-pilot (ah.. the stories), door gunner. Jack of all trades as needed. Also various bits and pieces of a/c and flight simulators as a tech writer. As I said, jack of all trades.
  2. Raymond, It's been changed. Just so you know, any topic you have started and you want to rename later, just go to the very first post in the topic and hit "edit". Then hit "use full editor".
  3. S.o.s. I wouldn't worry about what others have done. Do what pleases you. We've had models using a rock, a tree carved like the sea with a whale's flukes, old planks, etc. And they all looked good.
  4. Joe, I posted those for people like David so they can get an idea. By all means feel free. The more info, the better as there is no one right way for everyone. Your way might be the perfect one for those who couldn't get the others to work for them. And there's those who take a bit from one source, a bit from another, etc. Once you're ready, let us know and we can get it added to the Article database.
  5. Raymond, It does NOT correspond to the full version, intentionally. It was designed only to give people experience doing plank on frame and the conficts were due to decisions by the designer to simplify things somewhat. As for adding to the build, peruse the completed builds. There's several with additions such as wells, shot lockers, etc. Masting is on a spreadsheet.
  6. You might want to start by having a look here: http://modelshipworldforum.com/ship-model-furniture-and-deck-fittings.php or: http://modelshipworld.com/index.php?/topic/5204-making-cannons-from-non-traditional-materials/
  7. You're off to a great start. Be sure to wax that mold heavily. We had one back on MSW 1.0 that didn't release right and destroyed the model.
  8. Grant, What Floyd said... beautiful work.
  9. Piet, Looks sweet.. as for the mines.. I'm an old airplane guy too. Bombs get dropped out the bottom of the plane so to me, mines have to drop out the bottom of the submarine.
  10. Sherry, I'm slowly catching up and I think "wow" is appropriate for your build. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  11. David, Let's back up a bit... is this the English Surprize (Surprise) or the captured French ship renamed? The French had two methods of doing wales as far as I know. One is similar to the English way. The other is unique to the French. The wales only stood proud at the top level. below that, they tapered into the planking with no discernible difference to the planking. However, if L&H show what you showed, I'd go ahead and use that cross-section.
  12. Nice work, Dan. On the capsquares, I wonder if annealing the brass strip would have helped?
  13. Jud, What do is make the block and tackle and then paint the rope with a 50-50 mix of white glue and water. Matt varnish or lacquer will work also. Suspend or stretch the assembly while drying. The glue/water mix can also be used on lines that need to droop, etc.
  14. The plans for the full build and the cross-section are available here in the download area once access is granted.
  15. I just moved this to the appropriate forum. Hope you have fun with this build, Raymond.
  16. There's also a few here: http://modelshipworldforum.com/ship-model-rigging-and-sails.php
  17. Michael, When the mill I have dies, you can bet I'll be upgrading... Maury, Oh yes.. I made my own mod to this mill to hit about 12,000 rpm at the tool. That is a definite "must" upgrade for any mill we use to work with wood, IMO.
  18. I just noticed that MicroMark no longer carries this mill... so when mine dies, I'll get to upgrade.
  19. Ronald, Do a search on Victory in Kit Logs. I get 20 build logs including one by AL and one by Billings. It would probably be a good idea to check them out also.
  20. If you're not finding anything online, it might just be good for parts, maybe. Leaded parts are probably corroding and the wood might just be dry and splintery. However, give this a few days as it's possible someone has the plans stashed away.
